This Món Huế restaurant used to be in Phủ Lỗ, then the owner moved to another place for a while, and now they came back to the old location.
When the restaurant was closed, I really missed it, because in this area it was the only place selling bánh xèo and other Hue dishes. Now it has opened again, so of course I had to try.
The dish I liked the most here before was bánh xèo. It is a mix of many flavors: shrimp, bean sprouts, onion, carrot, wood ear mushroom, pork… all wrapped in a yellow crispy shell. When fried, it makes the “xèo xèo” sound, that’s why it has this name. The right way to eat is to roll it with fresh herbs, pickled carrot and cucumber, then wrap it with rice paper and dip into sweet and sour fish sauce. I used to love it a lot.
But this time, I was a bit disappointed. The bánh xèo had too many bean sprouts, so the filling was wet and oily. It didn’t taste as good as before. Price is 35,000 VND for 2 pieces – average price, acceptable.
I also ordered nem nụi. One set has 6 grilled meat sticks, the meat is wrapped around chopsticks and grilled. Smells good, tastes fine. Price is 50,000 VND, which is higher than usual (normally about 35,000 VND at other places).
To drink, I had 2 glasses of lemon tea, only 10,000 VND each – cheap, refreshing, very good with the food. Total bill was 150,000 VND for everything.
About the place, it looks better now than before. In the past it was very simple, now they have air-conditioning, so eating is more comfortable. But one big minus: the washing area for dishes is right at the entrance. It looks messy and not very clean. If they move it inside, it would be much better.
Overall, this time it was not as delicious as before. Maybe my taste has changed, or maybe they cook differently now. But if you have never tried bánh xèo, or if you are near Noi Bai airport (only 3 km away, at Phủ Lỗ T-junction), you can try this place. Besides bánh xèo, they also have bánh bột lọc, rice paper salad, grilled rice paper, Hue desserts and many drinks.
