I didn't think I'd be able to participate in this first question from @marivic10 in the community contest for week #257. I'm not really into collecting anything.
Not because I don't like it, but because of a space issue. There's only so much room in an apartment, or in a small house, like my wife's.
However, it was @elviguitarra herself who proved me wrong. It turns out I do collect. I collect books.
I'm a writer, and that's why I collect them. I like books. I like smelling them, browsing them, and of course, reading them. You might think this is logical, as a writer, but it isn't. For reading, the only thing I can do is use digital books (which are the ones I read the most) and can be listened to while doing other activities.
I like to buy physical books because it's the only way to see and touch them. I especially buy the classics. Those I've read several times, but return to them from time to time.
I also buy my friends' books. This section of the bookshelf is made especially for them. Whether I like them or not, whether they're award-winning or not. It doesn't matter: they're my friends' books, and that's enough for me.
I have to have them. It doesn't matter if they're gifts or if I have to pay several times their price. These books are more valuable to me than the classics. Those books are in my room, where no one can take them.
There's another bookcase for those books I have, but that don't interest me much.
It may seem heretical to some, but Angels and Demons is not a book I like at all. And it's illustrated and has a hardcover. It's a deluxe edition.
But I don't like the book. But other people do. That's why it's where they can see it, and if they want to read it, I'll lend it to them. Even if I don't like it, I wouldn't give it away. It's a book, and it's a luxury to have.
And so, friends, if you ever want to do something nice for me, give me something for my birthday, don't think about it too much: a book is the best gift in the world for me. Well, a book and four million euros... but that's another post for another time. Hugs to everyone.

No creí que podría participar en esta primera pregunta que nos deja @marivic10 en el concurso de la comunidad para la semana #257. Realmente no soy de coleccionar nada. No porque no me guste, sino por una cuestión de espacio. No caben muchas cosas en un apartamento, o en una casa pequeña, como la de mi esposa. Sin embargo, fue la misma @elviguitarra la que me demostró estar equivocado. Resulta ser que sí colecciono. Colecciono libros.
Soy escritor y por eso los colecciono. Me gustan los libros, Me olerlos, hojearlos y por supuesto, leerlos. Pensarán que es lo lógico, al ser escritor, pero no es así. Para leer lo que sobran son los libros digitales (que son los que más leo) y que se pueden escuchar mientras realizo otras actividades.
Me gusta comprarlos en físico porque es la única forma de verlos, tocarlos. Compro, sobre todo a los clásicos. Esos que ya leí varias veces, pero que regreso a ellos de vez en cuando.
Compro también a los de mis amigos. Esta zona del librero está hecha especialmente para ellos. Me gusten o no, sean libros premiados o no. Eso no importa: son los libros de mis amigos y con eso me basta.
Tengo que tenerlos. No importa si son regalados o tengo que pagar varias veces su precio. Estos libros son más valiosos para mí que los clásicos. Esos libros están en mi cuarto, donde nadie los pueda tomar.
Hay otro librero que es para esos libros que tengo, pero que no me interesan mucho.
Puede que peque de hereje para algunos, pero Ángeles y demonios no es un libro que me guste en absoluto. Y eso que está ilustrado y con tapa dura. Es una edición de lujo.
Pero el libro no me gusta. Pero a otras personas sí. Por eso está donde puedan verlo, y si lo quieren leer, se lo presto. Ni aunque no me guste lo regalo. Es un libro y es un lujo tenerlo.
Y de ese modo, amigas, si quieren algún día tener un detalle conmigo, regalarme algo por mi cumpleaños, no lo piensen mucho: un libro es el mejor regalo del mundo para mí. Bueno, un libro y cuatro millones de euros… pero ya eso es otro post. Un abrazo a todas.
