When we were kids, we heard stories of kings being buried alongside the heads of others. In fact, I remember being so scared anytime there was anything like a funeral for any king.
Years later and now, it’s just so beautiful to see. So for context, the Queen mother of Ashanti kingdom is dead and they are preparing to lay her to rest on Friday. And from what we’ve been seeing, culture is really beautiful.
First of all, I’ve heard so many times that the Ashanti kingdom is the most powerful but this is the first time I’m seeing it. They announced that nobody should bee seen outside today in Kumasi and oh boy!. When you watch all the videos circulating, not even a hen can be seen outside roaming.
I saw a video of the market places and the whole place was just empty. And that’s how serious the Ashanti kingdom is.
I heard them say the Queen mother would be sent through town in her coffin before being buried at the royal museum. And doing that time, nobody is supposed to come out of their house. You won’t be caught or beheaded but then when you look at the coffin, you’ll fall to your death on your own.

I wanted to ask my mom if this was a thing they’ve been doing but I later found out it’s actually been going on. We didn’t know because it’s the first time Ashanti kingdom was losing a Queen mother after a long time.
I’m not happy that they lost an important person in their kingdom but I can’t deny the fact that their culture is just so beautiful. When you see what went on at the pre funeral grounds, you would probably not understand, but one thing that is for sure is how you would just fall in love with their culture.
I think at this point, the only thing that serves as a constant reminder that this is a funeral rite is the fact that they are all wearing black to show they are mourning. Other than that, I will say it for the hundredth time that their culture is just beautiful.
