I don’t remember the last time I got bored. Maybe 8 months ago? I don’t know. I’ve been very occupied for some months now, and I’m always tired. Right after 10:30pm, which is my bedtime, my eyes begin to shut. And I actually miss those months when I used to be bored. Bored, not idle. Let me make it clear because I know most times, we think boredom is the same as idleness.
So back to what I was saying, I do miss those days when I would get bored. Those times? I did a lot, and my creativity level was over the roof. I remember that most of the amazing crochet works I’ve been able to do so far in my crocheting journey were all because I was bored.
So what usually happens when you are bored is that you want something to do. You desire an activity. And it could be anything, even the ones you’re not confident or comfortable with. I don’t know about you, but boredom made me start learning how to sew. I rembeing so bored oneday and then suddenly remembering that my mom had a sewing machine.
I brought it out, cleaned and checked all the parts and realized the machine was in good shape. I oiled the movable parts and then went to gather all the materials I needed to sew. And that was how I ended up honing my sewing skills. I was already learning how to sew but I couldn’t finish . But you know what happened? Boredom made me complete my sewing studies. And I was very proud of myself.
It also made me start learning about animals, especially cats. I remember being so scared that my cat was just sneezing anyhow so I just got my phone and then google became my best friend. I learned all that there is ti know about cats and mow it feels like i know my cats better than before. Boredom also made me start learning the basics of chess but that’s a story for another day.
I remember somewhere in the beginning of the year, I was on a long break, so I was always home. You know what happened? I started gardening. I had zero knowledge and zero experience, but I always thought it was beautiful that you could actually grow something from nothing. I’m talking about putting seeds in soil, watering, and the thing germinating into something beautiful.
I also started learning a lot. Oh, a lot. I came to know so much about so many things, which I think was so cool. I could mentally intrude in people’s conversations because I had a fair idea about what they were talking about.
That’s just me. I believe others even do more. I know most people who are always bored have the tidiest apartments or homes.
The moment they are bored, they just grab a broom or mop and clean the whole place. So you see, boredom isn’t exactly bad if you steer it in the right direction. It all depends on you and what you want to achieve in the end.
