My Sister's Fault

It's been a year since I last spoke to my sister just because of the disagreement we had related to her son, my nephew.

I agreed just because of our relationship. Besides, this boy has been a stubborn boy, but he had been in the care of my mum before she passed away.

Anytime I get home, he has been the one helping me take care of so many things, even with his stubborn attitude.

His mum, my elder sister, was unable to handle him as well as his dad. He has been causing countless troubles with them, and they decided to let him go out of the town just to get experience changes and to learn the job of his choice.

So, I accepted him. Although I had told my husband about it and he accepted. A few weeks later, he came and stayed with me. He was initially doing so great and was ready to listen to my command. My husband got him his choice of job just to learn for perfection. Fortunately, the one he was working with happened to know my husband, who caused him not to pay a dime; instead, he was being paid anytime they went for outings.

The day he started the work, he changed. He was proving too big to talk to. I tried to take all his insults, but he did it to the extent of getting me angry. I had no choice other than to send him out of my house.

Meanwhile, before sending him out, he ran away, and no one saw him in that vicinity. I informed his mum, and they began to call his phone number. He was not ready to answer anyone's call.

My husband called him, he answered, and later aborted the call. I asked one of my customers to call him, but he finally picked up her call since it was a strange number. She told him that the mother was sick, and he should call her immediately.

That day, he returned home. This was where our quarrel began. She did not call me, nor did her husband. I called my dad, who told me he had gotten home. My mind was balanced.

She began to tell people about how I maltreated her son, whereas I took him as my own. I bought him clothes the same week he arrived. I do give him money to buy things and also recharge his phone for data.

We kept on keeping each other at odds. I did not call her, and she did not call me.

It has been over a year now because it happened this same period last year. I also had vowed not to answer her calls whenever she tried to call me, since she can be so wicked.

Just last week, I went to Church for a program. I had this flash in me that my sister was going to call me. It came again that if she called, I should answer her calls. I'm the type of person who loves listening to flashes like this, and it must be realistic, no matter the situation.

When I got home, I was with my husband when I saw my phone ring. I checked and saw her name as a true caller. I had deleted her number and the husband's number from my contact lists. Immediately I saw it, I remembered the flash I experienced while in the Church. I did not allow the call to just die down; instead, I answered it. “Are you still angry?” She asked straightforwardly. “Yes. All this time, you cannot even give me a call to hear from me. You only heard your son's side and concluded”, I wanted to speak further, but just wanted to see if she could apologize. “I'm sorry. You don't need to explain anything. Just don't be angry with me. Dad told me everything that had happened. I had informed my dad before all that happened. Maybe he called her and explained everything to her. Although I felt it was a much too long to receive a call from her. She should have called me before now. If she had called, there wouldn't have been a place for apologies. We would have settled this last year.

This was how we settled our beef. Since that moment, we have been talking nicely, just like before. My dad had done a good job of talking sense to my elder sister's memory.
