I managed to gain something like six kilograms over a period of about three months. This is definitely one of my most successful bulking streaks of all time. I was underweight my entire life, and now I’m doing good.
I didn’t take the clean route to gain weight, though, since I’m not fond of eating four or five meals a day and cooking all the time. So, I added lots of sweets to my diet to pack on the pounds.
It’s not a strategy I’m proud of, but it worked. I can’t even call it a strategy because it just happened—I simply found myself eating more than usual and having way more desserts than I normally do. It is what it is.
I think I bagged something like 100 grams of sugar yesterday, and while tossing back some pancakes at a local restaurant, it hit me. No, I didn’t have a stroke, but a kind of divine inspiration. I gotta stop eating sweets.
I’ve been telling myself this for over three years, but yesterday I made a conscious decision to actually do it. I have to… I’ve been into fitness for about four years already, and sugar isn’t welcomed by most fitness gurus.I’m not a guru, but I know for a fact that most modern diseases come from processed foods and excessive refined sugar consumption.
Supermarkets are literally filled with this shit. We’re being deliberately poisoned, and it’s all our fault.Every single one of us is one decision away from cutting down on sugar and processed foods. Dieting nowadays is seen by some as something special, when in reality, eating whole foods and avoiding refined sugars was the norm back in the day.
Convenience created this death spiral we’re in because it’s easier to order and eat a pizza than to cook some rice with chicken breast or a steak.
How addictive is sugar?
Well...
"Sugar can be highly addictive, though the extent varies by individual. It stimulates dopamine release in the brain’s reward system, similar to drugs like nicotine or alcohol, creating cravings and reinforcing consumption. Studies show that in some cases, sugar can be as rewarding as cocaine in animal models, with rats preferring saccharin over cocaine in self-administration experiments."
This is what Grok of Twitter had to say about sugar addiction, and believe me, just like with porn, sugar (and probably cocaine too) has so many ways of tricking your mind into finding reasons to get some, metaphorically speaking.
People who completely cut sugar from their diet say that after about two weeks, the cravings for sweets start to fade. This is my first day on such a journey, and I hope it’s a lifelong one... Have a great day and catch up with you all next time.
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
