I've been researching different websites that offer to generate images with AI for free. This is by far not an exhaustive list but a way to play with AI and to get some different results.

I've tested out all the sites with the same prompt so that the results can be compared. Here the prompt that I have used for all the images below:

young woman fantasy warrior with partial armour from Sweden. Holding a sword and walking in a swedish village in winter time. Full body view, epic fantasy

Canva

The free version of canva allows you to generate 50 images per month using the Dall E model.

Gemini

Free users can create 10 to 20 images per day using the Google Gemini service. The model used is Image 3 (available on peakd).

ChatGpt

With ChatGpt, without upgrading your account you can create 3 images. It uses the model Dall E3.

Freepik

Freepik is a very big site, where plenty of different services are available. It also offers the possibility to generate up to 20 images for free with AI using either flux 1.0 fast model (available on Peakd) or their classic model that offers lower quality.

Here the result using Freepik (using flux 1.0)

Leonardo AI

Leonardo AI gives you daily 150 credits to generate images. According to the model that you use, this allows you to generate up to 15 set of 4 images each. There are several models available like Phoenix 1.0, Flux Dev or Flux fast.

Peakd

Peakd allows you to generate 1 image every 10 minutes for free using the Flux fast model.

Free vs paid images

The model that the websites are using defines mostly what type of image that you will generate. These are the cheapest versions and the refinement of the images are not really comparable with paid services. For a video project, I have generated an image from a paid service with the model Flux Pro (available on peakd) and the quality is all the same different.

Here the result of the paid service

If you want to see the final result. You can check out the video here. I also created a tutorial how to generate such videos if you are interested.

Conclusion

It's not that easy to generate quality images with AI using free services. The limitations are always in place to encourage you to purchase a membership and the result is often not really amazing.

However, I would suggest to play around with these free services to learn how to use prompts and get some experience. With Peakd you can then use more sophisticated models and directly pay in HBD without needing to subscribe to a paid membership site.
