Hallo zusammen, Hello everyone,

Alle paar Jahre verschlägt es unsere Famile nach Dänemark, hoch oben im Norden kurz vor die Spitze, nach Tversted. Auf dem Weg dorthin (am 14.8.2025) haben wir zuerst meine Eltern und dann ein paar Freunde (Sandra und Frank) besucht und auch dort übernachtet. Mit einer Fähre über die Elbe umfuhren wir den Engpass bei Hamburg.

Every few years, our family travels to Denmark, high up in the north, just before the top, to Tversted. On the way there (on August 14, 2025), we first visited my parents and then a few friends (Sandra and Frank), and also spent the night there. We took a ferry across the Elbe River to bypass the narrows near Hamburg.

Der Strand / The Beach

Einer der Hauptgründe, warum wir in die Ecke fahren, ist der große und in dieser Jahreszeit weitgehend leere Strand. Und weil wir diesmal Glück mit dem Wetter hatten, verbrachten wir auch die ersten Tage dort:

One of the main reasons we went to this area is the large and, at this time of year, largely empty beach. And because we were lucky with the weather this time, we spent the first few days there:

Ein weiterer wichtiger Grund für dieses Urlaubsziel sind die Freunde. Eine ganze Sippe unserer besten Freunde waren ebenfalls hier. Sie haben auch Ferienhäuser in der Gegend gemietet und wir treffen uns am Strand oder abends bei dem ein oder anderen.

Another important reason for this holiday destination is our friends. A whole group of our best friends were also here. They also rented holiday homes in the area, and we meet up at the beach or at one or another's house in the evenings.

Hirtshals

Nach ein paar Strandtagen haben wir die Gegend etwas erkundet. Wir fuhren in das Nachbarstädtchen Hirtshals und besichtigten dort das Bunkermuseum.

After a few days at the beach, we explored the area a bit. We drove to the neighboring town of Hirtshals and visited the Bunker Museum there.

Die Windmühle / The Windmill

Ca. 6 km von unserem Häuschen entfernt liegt die Klitmühle, ein altes Mühlenhaus, dass zu einem Museum umgebaut wurde. Ein ideales Ziel für einen Tagestrip. Auf dem Weg dorthin kamen wir an einem Baum vorbei, wo meine Kinder schon im Kleinkindalter drauf gesessen haben.

About 6 km from our cottage is the Klitmühle, an old mill house that has been converted into a museum. It's an ideal destination for a day trip. On the way there, we passed a tree that my children had been sitting on since they were toddlers.

Then we reached the mill.

Skagen

Skagen ist die nördlichste Stadt auf dem Dänischen Festland und jedesmal Pflichtprogramm, auch weil es nur 35 km von Tversted entfernt ist.

Skagen is the northernmost town on the Danish mainland and a must-see, especially because it is only 35 km from Tversted.

Städtebummel sind nicht so mein Ding. Da muss ich dann durch. Während der Rest der Familie in jedem Geschäft verschwindet schaue ich mir auf der Straße die Menschen an. Eines der Highlights in Skagen ist die Bonbonmanufaktur. Das ist schon nett anzusehen wie die Süßigkeiten hergestellt werden:

City strolls aren't really my thing. I just have to get through it. While the rest of the family disappears into every shop, I watch the people on the street. One of the highlights in Skagen is the candy factory. It's quite fun to see how the sweets are made:

Dann ging es 6 km weiter, bis an die Spitze, wo Ost- und Nordsee zusammentreffen, natürlich gesäumt von alten Bunkern:

Then we continued 6 km to the tip, where the Baltic and North Seas meet, naturally lined with old bunkers:

Das ist natürlich ein Touristenmagnet. Viele tausend Menschen pro Tag machen dasselbe.

This is, of course, a tourist magnet. Many thousands of people do the same every day.

Ganz am Ende hat man aber dann ein paar Sekunden Zeit um schnell das Selfi zu machen, wo man "alleine" mit dem rechten Fuß in der Nordsee und dem linken in der Ostsee steht:

At the very end, you have a few seconds to quickly take a selfie where you are standing "alone" with your right foot in the North Sea and your left in the Baltic Sea:

Dann gingen wir die Strecke wieder zurück. In Skagen belohnten wir uns dann noch mit Fish'n Chips. (Ich mag ja eigentlich keinen Fisch. Aber die panierte Seescholle wurde mit viel Zitrone und Remoulade eingecremt, so dass es gar nicht so schlimm war).

Then we retraced our steps. In Skagen, we rewarded ourselves with fish and chips. (I don't really like fish, but the breaded plaice was smothered with lots of lemon and tartar sauce, so it wasn't so bad.)

Grillen am Strand / BBQ at the beach

Für den Sonntag haben wir uns mit ein paar Freunden zum Grillen am Strand verabredet.

On Sunday we met up with some friends for a barbecue on the beach.

Rudjerg Knude Leuchtturm / Lighthouse

In der Nähe von Lökken (ca. 30 km von Tversted) gibt es einen Leuchtturm, der vor kurzem in das Landesinnere "verschoben" worden ist. Das Meer frisst hier jedes Jahr zwei Meter Küste weg. Dies ist natürlich auch ein Touristenmagnet.

Near Lökken (about 30 km from Tversted), there's a lighthouse that was recently "moved" inland. The sea erodes two meters of coastline here every year. This, of course, is also a tourist attraction.

Hier hat sich ein eigener Kult entwickelt. Die Ziegelsteine vom zerfallenen Wärterhaus werden so im Sand drapiert, dass sie vom Leuchtturm aus lesbar sind:

A cult of its own has developed here. The bricks from the dilapidated keeper's house are draped in the sand so that they can be read from the lighthouse:

Zum Abschluss gab es noch ein von Oma spendiertes leckeres Dänischen Eis in Lökken:

To finish off, we had a delicious Danish ice cream in Lökken, donated by Grandma:

Radtour nach Hirtshals / Biketour to Hirtshals

Es gibt einen sehr schönen, 15 km langen Radfahrweg (Route 1) von Tversted nach Hirtshals. Diesen sind meine Frau und ich am Mittwoch 27.8.25 gefahren.

There's a very nice, 15-kilometer-long cycle path (Route 1) from Tversted to Hirtshals. My wife and I cycled this on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Zum ersten Mal in den jetzt 1,5 Wochen Urlaub zog etwas Regen auf, der natürlich genau dann einsetzte, als wir abends bei uns gegrillt haben.

For the first time in our 1.5 weeks of vacation, it rained a little, which of course started right when we were having our barbecue in the evening.

Jetzt, am Donnerstag, geht der Urlaub langsam zu Ende. Er war sehr erholsam. Ich liebe diese weite und die Ruhe in den Dünen (wenn der Wind nicht weht). Hier ein Foto von der Morgenstimmung, aus dem Küchenfenster:

Now, on Thursday, the vacation is slowly coming to an end. It was very relaxing. I love the open spaces and the peace and quiet of the dunes (when the wind isn't blowing). Here's a photo of the morning atmosphere, taken from the kitchen window:
