From Sketch to Reality: Making My Own Wedding Dress

When my partner and I got engaged, I knew that I wanted my wedding dress to be something special and unique. As a fashion designer, I've always dreamed of creating my own wedding dress, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring my vision to life.

I started by sketching out my ideas and deciding on which to go for after sewing test fits and style that I loved. From there, I picked out the perfect fabric and drafted a pattern that would work for my design. It was a lot of work, but I was determined to make my dream dress a reality.

As I began the sewing process, I encountered my fair share of challenges. There were times when I wasn't sure if I'd be able to finish the dress in time, there were plenty of frustrating moments too, but I persevered and kept going, I stumbled on a challenge (WIP) here which I participated, it motivated me to continue and eventually, my sketch started to take shape as a real garment.

After joining the back bodice, I went to fix the eyelet rings for lacing at the market, I couldn't do it myself because I was scared of ruining my dress 😂

I used a pearl machine to fix pearls on the front bodice, I used a size 6 and size 8 holeless white pearls, it took about three weeks to get it fixed @temmylade also helped out in fixing the pearls, it was tiring but fun though

I used about 60 yards of net and 10 yards of bridal satin, these whole fabrics was too bulky for my sewing machine to sew together so, I had to used a hand needle to hand stitched the lower part (the ball effect) and it took about 8hours to finish the hand stitching though not at a stretch because I was taking a break to rest at intervals

The final product was worth all the hard work. Seeing my sketch come to life as a stunning wedding dress was an incredible feeling, and I felt so proud and happy on my big day. My dress was truly one-of-a-kind and completely unique, and it was exactly what I had always wanted.
