Occasionally I go on a Hive shilling spree. I shill Hive in real life and on the internet, lol. Crypto people just put me down as a “fanboi” and laugh at me. I keep telling them that Hive is *“the greatest blockchain that nobody’s heard of”*.
Here in this video I published on Saturday I tried to go through some of the key features of Hive in a totally non-geeky way, highlighting utility based platforms and income via rewards. People respond to money, so that’s always a way to go.
It’s amazing to me how easily I can talk about Hive because I’ve been on it for so long. This video was recorded on the fly with zero preparation and zero scripting. I can just fire up my camera and talk for hours about Hive. I had to actively stop myself from going on too long in fear of putting people to sleep.
The overall message is somewhat sad though, I have to say. It seems like we’ve been talking about the “potential” of Hive since forever and we just never achieved the mass adoption. I also realised how many daps have actually departed the platform over the years. Appics, for instance, was an amazing platform that just ran out of patience and went their own way. I still use Appics, albeit seldomly, and it’s chugging on just fine. The token price is in the gutter, but that doesn’t seem to bother the people on there who just use it like Instagram. Heck, nobody’s getting paid anything on Instagram anyway - not unless you’re some kind of influencer that gets brand deals or sales through the platform.
I sometimes wonder if the glory days of Hive will ever return. There are spinoffs that have done very well, like Splinterlands for instance, but Hive itself seems to have settled into the role of a L1 (or even L0), serving as infrastructure for other platforms.
Peace & Love,
