"Praetoria trembles as Nidhoggr stretches his wings and tears at the earth with claws and teeth. Soon, he will rise, both vengeful and ravenous."
Greetings Splinterlands community!
@affliction here, back with the latest entry in my Splinterlands lore video series — this time diving into the abyssal legend of Nidhoggr. This one was a recommendation by @unitmaster, and I must say, creating it was both challenging and exciting at the same time as I truly got into the details of the Card's lore and found a lot of details to relate to it's story.
If you missed my previous work, do check out the lore video on "Doctor Blight".
The Card
Stats & Abilities
- Legendary Summoner
- Force Reduction - Reduces maximum team size by 1.
- -1 Armor - Reduces all enemy armor by 1.
- -1 Health - Reduces all enemy health by 1.
Tactical Options
When summoned, Nidhoggr can grant your team one of two powerful boosts:
1. 3 Units Gain Blast + Deathblow
- Blast spreads damage, Deathblow doubles it against lone enemies.
2. 3 Units Gain +2 Speed + Execute
- Speed gives initiative, Execute doubles damage to targets under half health.
Lore
Since before the reach of memory or history, the immense dragon known as Nidhoggr has slumbered beneath Praetoria, buried in the nethermost reaches of the Deep.
But when the legions of Chaos tore open rifts in the boundaries that separated the Splinterlands from the other realms of existence, Nidhoggr stirred. For he is a guardian dragon and custodian of these ley lines.
He rose from the chasm in which he'd buried himself, shook off a mountain of rock and debris, and enlisted the denizens of the Deep to travel to the surface and observe. Soon, he learned of the Chaos Empire's trespass. He learned of the Splinterlanders failure to stop them.
And he found them both guilty.
Praetoria trembles as Nidhoggr stretches his wings and tears at the earth with claws and teeth. Soon, he will rise, both vengeful and ravenous.
Gameplay Analysis
Strengths
- Double debuff (-1 Armor & -1 Health) immediately weakens enemies.
- Blast + Deathblow option is devastating in wide or late battles.
- Speed + Execute option makes your assassins and DPS lethal.
Weaknesses
- High mana summoner — not viable in low mana rulesets.
- Force Reduction shrinks team size, limiting options.
