In time travel stories... Have you ever wonderped about the "correct" timeline and if there's actually one?
I mean, usually, the main characters of these stories try to change the future. In the stories that it does change, are they "correcting" history, or are they messing it up?
In CHRONO TRIGGER, the true timeline (before changing" had the humanity die in 2300's, but the protagonist go the whole game to change that future. Not everything they did changed it for the better.
CHRONO CROSS shows us how could that backfire very badly, as their involvement led to creation of F.A.T.E. a super computer that controls the parallel timelines, not to mention Time Devourer, which aims to "eat" all timelines.
There's another game that comes to mind...
In Life is Strange the correct history is the one where Chloe dies. Changing it in the beginning of the story causes everything bad that happens in it. By the end, you're met with the question if it's all worth it for her life, or if you should go back in time and let the "correct" history play out.
The screenshot is from Kowloon's Curse: Lost Report, and in this game the "correct" history is where the player character and his friend both die. An entity keeps warning that if you change the future, it'll go badly for everyone else.
I wonder if the plot of the full game of Kowloon's Curse: Lost Report will deal with that or something... For now, I just leave you with my Youtube Playlist of my playthrough, and I hope to meet you in another #thinkingwhilegaming reaction!
