About two years ago, I went with my best friend and his friends to **Embalse la Mariposa**, a dam located in Miranda State, Venezuela. There, the company PiraguaCaracas is in charge of everything related to kayaking on the reservoir as a form of ecotourism to conserve, care for, and restore the reservoir.
>Hace como unos dos años me fui con mi mejor amigo y sus amigos al Embalse la Mariposa, una represa ubicada en el Estado Miranda, Venezuela. Ahí la empresa PiraguaCaracas es el encargado de todo lo relacionado con hacer Kayak en el embalse como una forma de ecoturismo para conservar, cuidar y restaurar el Embalse.
At that time, I was in the mood to “go out and do lots of new things,” so when he suggested it, I immediately said yes. If I remember correctly, the tour of the reservoir cost about $5 or $10 US for about 15 minutes (it seems like a short time, but it's quite a lot). We went by private car, but I think you can also get there by bus. Just remembering it makes me want to go back tomorrow, ha ha ha.
>En ese momento yo andaba modo “quiero salir y hacer muchas cosas nuevas” así que cuando él me lo propuso, de una dije que sí, si mal no recuerdo, el recorrido por el embalse costaba como $5 o $10 americanos unos 15 min (parece poco tiempo, pero es bastante). Nosotros nos fuimos en carro particular, pero creo que también se puede llegar en autobús, mientras lo recuerdo me dan ganas de ir mañana mismo jajaja.
All the supervisors and managers were extremely friendly, attentive, and mindful of every detail. Not only did they tell us the history of the reservoir, but they also explained the entire process to those of us who were kayaking for the first time (like me), including the precautions we should take when getting into and staying in the kayak.
>Todos los supervisores y encargados fueron muy amables, atentos, y pendientes de todos los detalles, no solo nos contaron la historia del embalse, sino que también para los que hacían kayak por primera vez (como yo) nos explicaron todooo el proceso, los cuidados que debíamos tener al montarnos y estar en el kayak.
They were also our tour guides. It's amazing how strong you have to be to use the paddle. It was really funny trying to coordinate with my friend to paddle, go in the right direction, and not tip over.
>Es increíble lo fuerte que debes ser para usar la pala, era muy cómico intentar coordinarme con mi amigo para remar, ir a la dirección correcta y no volcarnos.
Plus, it was a place with a really nice view of the mountains. It was a really special and fun day, one of the many outings I had with Daniel before he left Venezuela, so I remember it fondly, and it makes me a little sentimental.
