On May 30, I experienced one of the most eagerly awaited moments of recent years. Two months have passed since that magical moment, which is worth remembering, not so much for the day itself, but for what it meant and means to me.
> El pasado 30 de mayo viví unos de los momentos más esperados de últimos años, ya han pasado dos meses de ese momento mágico que valen la pena recordar, más que por el día en concreto es por lo que significó y significa para mi.
Let me tell you the story behind these photos, because you might be wondering, “What stage are not these university photos from?” Well, no, but I swear they were just as valuable as my degree. This stage began a long time ago, back in 2019 when I was just starting university.
> Déjame y te cuento la historia detrás de estas fotos, porque te preguntaras, ¿Qué etapa si no son fotos universitarias? pues, no pero te juro que valieron tanto como mi titulo. Esta etapa comenzó hace mucho tiempo, por allá en el 2019 cuando estaba apenas comenzando la universidad.
At that time, thanks to the support of a great friend, I joined the Excellence Program of the Venezuelan-American Friendship Association (AVAA). This is a scholarship program for young people who excel in their university studies, want to develop other skills, have a strong social commitment, and are committed to a better society. The program offers you a green family, as we call it, a little house where you meet more than 200 young people from different majors and universities.
>Por esa época, gracias al apoyo de un gran amigo llegué al Programa Excelencia de la Asociación Venezolano Americana de Amistad (AVAA), este es un programa de beca para jóvenes que tienen alto rendimiento en sus estudios universitarios, quieren formarse en otras competencias, tienen gran compromiso social y apuestan por una mejor sociedad. El programa te ofrece una familia verde, como le decimos nosotros, una casita en la que conoces a más de 200 jóvenes que diferentes carreras y universidades.
They train you in soft skills such as leadership, entrepreneurship, self-management, information technology, and citizenship. Each year, you must complete at least 100 hours of volunteer work with the program's institutional projects, which are managed by Proexcelencia Scholars. You participate in English chats to learn English as a second language, and you are also paid for an English course at a partner academy and given a monthly stipend to cover some of your university expenses. But that's not all. It's a training process that accompanies and complements you throughout your degree program. Once you finish, there is a nice graduation ceremony and you receive a certificate endorsed by the University of Carabobo, the Institute of Higher Studies in Administration (IESA), and the Venezuelan-American Center, all three of which are well-known and valued institutions in my country. Incredible, isn't it?
>Te forman en competencias blandas como liderazgo, emprendimiento, gerencia de si mismo, tecnologías de la información y ciudadanía, al año tienes que realizar al menos 100 horas de voluntariado con los proyectos institucionales que tiene el programa y que manejan los Becarios Proexcelencia, ves chats en inglés para el aprendizaje del inglés como 2do idioma, también te pagan un curso de inglés en una academia aliada y te dan un estipendio mensual para que puedas cubrir algunos de tus gastos universitarios. Pero eso no es todo, es un proceso de formación que te acompaña y complementa durante el tiempo que dure tu carrera, una vez terminas, hacen una bonita ceremonia de egreso y te dan un certificado avalado por la Universidad de Carabobo, el Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración (IESA) y el Centro Venezolano Americano, las tres son instituciones conocidas y de valor en mi país. ¿Increíble, no?
Can something this good be true? Well, yes, I am a witness. Just as AVAA exists, I am sure that there are also places around the world that offer opportunities to young people who are brave enough to try and persistent enough to fight until the end.
>¿Algo tan bueno puede ser cierto? Pues si, soy testigo, así como existe AVAA estoy segura que alrededor del mundo también hay lugares que ofrecen oportunidades a los jóvenes, a quienes son suficientemente valientes para intentarlo y constantes para luchar hasta el final.
AVAA was with me throughout my entire career. Sometimes I took on too many commitments, putting my career as a musician on hold, and perhaps I slept a little less than others, but it was a beautiful experience. Like everything else, I had my ups and downs, but it also gave me friends, memories, and horizons to that young woman who entered college without really knowing what she was doing with her life. Every volunteer opportunity I had was like vitamin and energy for the soul.
>AVAA estuvo conmigo durante toda mi carrera, a veces me sobrepasaba todos los compromisos, paralicé mi carrera como músico, y quizás dormí un poco menos que otros, pero fue una experiencia hermosa, como todo, tuve mis altos y bajos, pero también me dio amigos, recuerdos, horizontes a esa joven que entró a la universidad sin saber bien que estaba haciendo con su vida. Cada voluntariado que pude hacer fue vitamina y energía para el alma.
All the effort was worth it when, that Friday afternoon, together with some of my many colleagues and friends, I received that certificate from the person who became my boss and friend. Oh, I forgot to mention, in my last year I was able to be an intern at Proexcelencia. Crazy, right? Now I was doing my bit for the program that had seen me grow over the years. A great way to close the cycle, as a friend would say.
>Todos los esfuerzos valieron la pena cuando ese viernes en la tarde junto con algunos de mis tantos compañeros y amigos, recibí ese certificado, de la mano de quien llegó a ser mi jefa y amiga. Aah, porque no les conté, en mi último año pude ser pasante de Proexcelencia, ¿loco, no? ahora estaba dando mi granito de arena a ese programa que me vio crecer durante estos años, gran forma de cerrar el ciclo como diría un amigo.
It was a beautiful afternoon. I listened to the life stories of those with whom I share the little green house, and we sang happy birthday because AVAA turned 83 this year. Although ProExcelencia is not as old, it has been changing the lives of many young Venezuelans like me for at least 25 years.
>Fue una tarde hermosa, escuché los testimonios de vida de aquellos con quienes comparto la casita verde, además cantamos cumpleaños porque AVAA este año cumplió 83 años y aunque ProExcelencia no tiene tantos años, lleva al menos más de 25 años cambiando las vidas de muchos jóvenes venezolanos como yo.
With hearts full of nostalgia and happiness, that day we celebrated the end of a stage, going from being AVAA interns to AVAA alumni, because the little green house will always be tattooed on our hearts.
>Con el corazón arrugado lleno de nostalgia y felicidad ese día celebramos el final de una etapa, pasamos de ser becarios AVAA, a ser Alumni AVAA, porque el casita verde siempre se llevará tatuada en el pecho.
Hello dear friends at Hive! Today, on #tbt Thursday, I wanted to share with you this very special moment I experienced a few months ago. Events or ceremonies like this are filled with so many emotions and feelings that are not easy to forget or describe, but in my case, I think gratitude, affection, and pride are what prevail in me the most.
