As every year, this Saturday, the 20th, was World Beach Day, a very special day when hundreds of volunteers, foundations, and companies come together to clean up their local beaches and raise awareness about the importance of caring for beaches and the sea through recycling and proper waste disposal.

This year, I volunteered at a beach in La Guaira (Venezuela) called Playa Surfista, about half an hour from Caracas, with the Venezuelan-American Friendship Association (AVAA), the organization I was part of during my college years, and the Sustainable Development Foundation (FUNDESUS), which was in charge of organizing the activity.

This time, I was in charge of logistics, filling out the forms that help keep statistics on the waste collected, weighing the bags, keeping everyone hydrated, and helping to sort the waste.

At the end of the day, we counted an average of 27 bags of waste, each weighing 3 kg, and two tires. This time, we separated the plastic from everything else because it will be recycled, which is a very positive thing. It was a half-day, but very productive. I can't deny that this type of volunteer activity is one of my favorite hobbies. On days like yesterday, when you know that many people, not only in Venezuela but all over the world, are united for the same cause, it makes you feel part of a much bigger change.

Holaa queridos amigos, espero que estén teniendo un increíble lunes. Al igual que todos los años, este sábado 20 se celebró el día Mundial de las Playas, un día muy especial donde cientos de voluntarios, fundaciones y empresas se reúnen para limpiar las playas de sus localidades y concientizar sobre la importancia de cuidar las playas, el mar, a través del reciclaje y de la correcta disposición de los desechos. Este año, fui voluntaria en una playa de la Guaira (Venezuela), llamada Playa Surfista, a una media hora de Caracas, con la Asociación Venezolano Americana de Amistad AVAA, la organización de la que fui parte durante mis años universitarios y la Fundación de Desarrollo Sustentable FUNDESUS, encargada de realizar la actividad. Esta vez me tocó ayudar en la parte logística, el llenado de las planillas que ayudan a tener estadísticas de los desechos que se consiguen, pesar las bolsas, mantener a todo el mundo hidratado, ayudar a clasificar los desechos. Al final de la jornada, contabilizamos unas 27 bolsas de desechos en promedio de 3Kg cada una, y dos cauchos, esta vez separamos el plástico de todo lo demás porque será reciclado, lo cual es algo muy positivo. Fue una jornada de medio día, pero muy productiva, no les puedo negar que este tipo de actividades como voluntaria es de mis hobbies favoritos, en días como ayer, que sabes que muchas personas no solo en Venezuela, sino en todo el mundo están unidos en una misma causa te hace sentir parte de un cambio mucho más grande.
