For someone who can talk for 24 hours in 24 hours, I am oddly amused at how difficult its been to type my first sentence here. Whew! I guess I have finally done it.
My name is IdongesitAbasi but my friends call me Aidy. I am a doctor and an extrovert.
My mum likes to think I became a doctor because of her, she is a nurse so I followed her to work almost everyday as a child. I let her run with the story, probably because she says it with all enthusiasm but here is the true story of how i became a doctor.
I walked into a bookshop when I was 12 years old and picked up a book "Gifted hands by Ben Carson", I could not afford the book at the time, so I went home and asked my dad to give me money for this book. Luckily, my dad bought and read lots of books so he just reached out to his pocket and handed me the money without asking any questions. There is no word that rightfully describes how I felt reading through every single page of gifted hands. My aspiration of becoming a medical doctor was as clear to me as snow on christmas morning at age 12.
This is me in my second year of medical school

There is a part of me that wishes I could tell you about how i became an extrovert, we all know that will be an untrue story so I will tell you that having an extroverted personality as an innate part of me has been my treasured gift from God. I am the most outgoing human that I have met, infact I thought I will never be able to make it through the walls of medical school because most doctors I know are quiet, reserved, introverted with little or no social life, I feared that I will fail if I did not cage up myself in time, the mind is indeed a magical weapon raddled up by our thoughts. Here are some pictures of me at my second social event in school, let me save the first for another story on hive.
I love storytelling, journaling, reading books, traveling, dancing, singing, watching movies, cooking, riding a bike, swimming, listening to music, hanging out with friends, taking photos, surfing the web, spoken word poetry, making videos, playing video games and window shopping. Hey! this was my cliche attempt at listing all my hobbies and stating out how present I am in the real world despite being a medical doctor.
Talking about medicine and becoming a doctor was my main aim of writing this post but I had to swerve a little so I could introduce you to the other parts of me. Now back to my medical world. Medicine is my first love language, for me, It is more than just a career, It is my safe space, where my heart is most at peace. I have always been fascinated about creation, particularly, the human body and why people act the way they do. I have found passion and purpose in saving lives through God's grace and as I journey through the lanes of my career, I hope to make a difference, I hope to sometime tell a story about my "gifted hands". This will be my space where I share stories about tropical diseases, health and controversies in the medical world and I will drive so many hivers along in this my new found journey.
@lizzyblueart thank you for introducing me to this amazing platform and adding one more adventure to my life. @indayclara thank you for taking out time to send in all the corrections I needed to make an awesome introductory post.
