This is more of a note to myself. You can gain from this too.
The struggle to be consistent often lies in the space between our feelings and our actions. We feel good when we do what we know we should, and we feel bad when we don't. The struggle is in between. The key is to close that gap and learn how to show up even when the motivation isn't there.
You don't need inspiration to strike before you start something creative. You need a system that makes creativity a regular habit.
I've found the following strategies helpful for myself, and I hope they are for you, too.
1. Creativity is Not an Event. Make it an Habit.
Find a way to show up every day, even if it's just for a little while. Give yourself permission to build momentum with imperfect work. By making the habit of showing up less overwhelming, you can commit to small, achievable goals, like writing just 100 words for your blog post. Pick a specific time or a set amount of time to show up daily.
2. Plan and Organize Your Work
You don't need an elaborate content calendar. Simply scribble some notes or put a few points in a notepad about what you want to do. For me, I just make sure that I write a blog post or create a video for my YouTube channel at least once a week. (I could do more). You can also keep an idea bank on your phone to easily document new thoughts.
3. Avoid Fueling Your Creativity with Distractions
While you need to consume widely to be creative, don't let your consumption become a distraction. Seek out activities that genuinely expose you to new ideas and fuel your creativity, like taking a walk, listening to music, or meditating. These activities can help you recharge and prevent creative fatigue.
4. Allow Yourself to Improve Over Time
The pursuit of perfection is a major cause of creative block. Embrace imperfection and understand that your first attempt probably won't be your best. You're in charge of your own creative journey, so give yourself space to improve again and again.
I'd be interested to hear what you think of these questions:
• What's the least thing you could do daily to build a creative habit? (Could be putting together one paragraph a day for me.)
• How do you feel when you complete a task you had planned? ( If I could complete one out of three, I feel so great and calm with my self.)
• How do you deal with creative blocks or distractions? ( Sometimes, I allow it and always bring myself back to the task at hand - not easy but easy because I prefer not to be distracted.)
You can share your thoughts on this in the comments section. Thanks for your time on this.
