I didnāt know Iāll end up having a pet at some point in my life. I used to be so scared of animals, even harmless puppies. Guard dogs have always been a thing in my house and I hated it so much. Eventually, I made progress cohabiting and tolerating them.
My neighbors in Uni had a few pets around the house. Dog breeds like Lhasa and Eskimo. We also had cats around.
I ended up really liking the little puppies because of how cute they look and i eventually bought one for myself.
RAISING SNOW
As a first time independent pet owner, Itās like raising a child where you have your moments of love and annoyance. I got him a month old, he was so wittle and little but full of trouble.
If youāre wondering how he got the name āsnowā, his former owner named him and since he was already used to that name, i didnāt bother renaming him.
My friends thinks itās a really cute name though.
Heās a Lhasa breed and I chose his breed because people advised as a first time owner, theyāre easier to train and they barely grow bigger.
The most tasking phase was his puppy stage. I had a hard time potty training him and i kept cleaning up a lot. He barely slept at night, most times heāll cry all through. Everyone said itās because he was still very little and they were correct. He adapted months after and we became best of friends.
I also had to care for his hair even more than the way i care for mine. Thereās also certain foods to avoid as their breed is very delicate at the tender age.
OUR RELATIONSHIP
Iāll describe our bond a love and hate one. Itās like siblings who fight and annoy themselves so much, yet they love and still need each other.
Snow is my bestie, he knows and sees literally everything about me. He keeps me company and he is somehow a great comforter. I canāt forget how heās my best cuddle partner.
He is also very stubborn and begs a lot. Anywhere thereās food, snow is right there. He does this special jump and wags his tail in excitement whenever he sees me with a takeout, he is such a foodie and a beg.
He eats a lot but heās never satisfied.
MY FEAR
Recently , he got the parvo virus and was really sick. Parvo is a virus common among puppies. Snow the all time foodie refused even water and didnāt eat anything for almost three days. It was a scary moment for me because if youāre a pet owner and youāre familiar with the parvo virus, it completely knocks them out and most times itās a 50/50 chance. I thought i was about to lose him but thankfully he survived as the strong dog that he is.
I have another weird fear of him growing too big. Iām not a fan of big dogs and I wish he can remain small forever. Heāll be a year old soon and heās grown significantly, but hopefully he doesnāt grow too too big and i end up not liking him as much.
My all time fear is their lifespan. Iāve always believed dogs donāt live too long but itās a misconception. Recently I did a lot of research and I discovered if theyāre properly taken care of, they can live for up to 12-15 years.
Itās my first time writing in this community and Iām looking forward to sharing more experiences with Snow next time. Also thanks to @samostically for showing me this very interesting community.
Iāll like to know if you have any pets, their names and what are your experiences with them?
Thank you for reading š
