The bristle fly (Cylindromyia intermedia) is a species of fly belonging to the subfamily Phasiinae. Like hoverflies, bristle flies prefer flowers over dung or carrion. I photographed the fly in the bushes near my house yesterday afternoon. It was perched casually on a thorny ball of a shrub. It was exposed, vulnerable to predators like jumping spiders or robber flies.
This is another entry I submitted for the daily #monomad challenge.
