This is a post from the time I was in Europe. About a month ago.
Why you ask did it take me this long to write about this well its very simple explanation. I lost my phone. It was not stolen. I dropped it. I took an Uber. I shifted weight to let my brother get into the car and the phone dropped from my hoodie pocket. The car was dark inside and I was feeling a big high that time. It was not because I had a great day. Yes I did have a great day.

But is a different post save for another day I just wanted to remind myself of how unperfect of a human I can be. Anyway, the El Camino walk started in Vigo Spain. A port city that has very old building and lots of little quirks you will find in a Spanish city. Oh more importantly I say this with a grain of salt, siestas suck. I am Filipino and was a kid living in the Philippines prior to immigrating to Australia so my experience of siestas was not a positive one since I do not like to nap in the middle of the day as a kid. The world was and is still my oyster that needs lots of exploring by foot, wheel or wings. So when I was walking around Vigo before the big first day of the walk to Santiago De Compostela I hated it when I could not go into shops or restaurants in the middle of the day. What is up with that.
That's a big rant ...
My only photo of the first day.
I only was able to get this pic because my brother asked me to send it to him straight after taking the shot.
Walk context. There were 19 of us, consisting of 9 doctors and other professionals within their trade/specialization with ages ranging from 32 to 88 years of age. My nephew was the youngest then followed by me, the rest started to climb in age from 60 onwards. The 88 year old didn't last the whole first day. He got sick from eating oysters the night before. But because of the doctors in the group there was no need for the hospital so they drugged him and got him to tap out after 5 kms from the start.
The initial walk from the hotel was fairly easy for the first 7 kms was a slow gradual climb into a forested path with the picture at about the 7km mark, give or take a few foots steps here and there. Peaceful and very cool.
The start had us pray as a group then a quasi pose formed between groups of 4 to five people depending on the speed they were walking.
Dazza an ex military man kept chanting "No pain, no pain". He. Was. In. Pain.
You thought this was a post about the first day...

Gothcha. Well kind of.
No this is about Vigo City and our impromptu adventure around the place to see what it had to offer since we were there for two days. With lots of people coming from different places we needed two days to group up so that allowed us to suffer the siesta of Spanish obsession. I think it is endemic of just Spain though.
We found a nice Octopus place to dine in the middle of the Old Town of Vigo. Polbo Restaurant, if you ever visit the place you will know it is were we ate because this restaurant is next to four other octopus restaurants yet it is the one that has the most people in it.

I just noticed the wheelchair. Looks fitting since I think the cars were speeding towards us as we took this picture. Lucky none of us got into one taking this photo. I couldn't afford to be in one since I was already sporting a sling for my right arm.
We were on a mission to look for a beer and some food. We had just left the hotel and head down towards the waters edge because someone mentioned there were lots of eateries in the general area. Bloody siestas! Nope. Nothing open. So we just walked around instead looking around and sight seeing.

We arrived at the wharf area and noticed an old Navy ship.
Hmmm for the life of I cannot remember which country it was from, but I do know it was South American, if I would have to guess I would say Peruvian.
Yes!! It was a Peruvian Navy ship, a Galleon but with diesel power. I remember now because of the sherpa cloak I wanted to get but decided not to because I wanted to keep the weight of my luggage light since I was after all quarter broken.
We did eventually find beers

It took a few more walks around the place to find a few watering holes where they served beer as well. I lied of course. Every place I went to served beer. I think we had 6 beers by the end of the night. I was so slushed I decided to sleep early. It was a blurry affair since we drank a few every night. I forget and forgot that my older brother always drinks daily when he is on holidays. I mean I could not escape from drinks the whole three weeks I was in Europe.
LOL you sound like you were all over the place while you were there, when in reality you only visited two countries that are in Europe. I hate to say this but mass immigration sucks. I saw with mine own eyes. That shit stinks like a months worth of laundry left in a toilet. I digress.
In closing Vigo deserves to be stayed at for a month at the very least. There are so many small street that have very interesting buildings, architecture and quirky places to get lost in. The food is good. The vegetables from the fruit and veges shops are top quality, the Spanish know how to grow good produce. The city also has a long history that are told in plaques found all over the city. Again the siestas are something I would need to wrap my head around in since I cannot fathom myself sleeping in the middle of the day but then again I am more of a fly buzzing about not sitting in one spot for too long. Anyway I'll let you guys go since I think I will sleep now. Laters.
