Hay canciones que apenas suenan ya te sacan una sonrisa, y “Bajo del mar” de La Sirenita es justamente una de esas. Es imposible escucharla y no transportarse a ese mundo colorido, alegre y lleno de vida del fondo del océano. Desde que somos niños, este tema nos acompaña como un recuerdo feliz, con esa mezcla de ritmo caribeño y energía contagiosa que lo hace inolvidable.
Lo que me encanta de “Bajo del mar” es que no se queda solo en ser una canción divertida: también transmite un mensaje claro de valorar lo que tenemos, de disfrutar la vida sencilla sin estar soñando siempre con lo que está afuera. Sebastian, el cangrejo, lo canta con tanta gracia y sabor que uno no puede evitar seguirle el ritmo y dejarse llevar por la fiesta.
Al llevarla al piano, mi idea no fue simplemente repetir la melodía, sino darle un aire más íntimo sin perder esa alegría que la caracteriza. El piano, aunque pueda parecer serio, tiene la capacidad de volverse juguetón, rítmico y hasta “bailador” si uno lo deja. Quise que cada nota conservara ese espíritu caribeño, pero al mismo tiempo mostrar cómo una canción llena de percusión y colores puede brillar también en una versión instrumental sencilla.
Lo bonito es que, aunque no haya letra en esta versión, la melodía por sí sola ya te cuenta la historia. Se siente la fiesta, el movimiento del mar, los coros imaginarios de los peces… todo está ahí, escondido entre las teclas. Tocar este tema es como volver a la infancia, a esa sensación de alegría sin preocupaciones, a un momento donde todo parece posible.
Ojalá mi versión en piano de “Bajo del mar” te arranque la misma sonrisa que me saca a mí cada vez que la interpreto. Porque, al final, la música tiene eso: nos devuelve un pedacito de felicidad, aunque sea por unos minutos

Sebastian, the crab, sings it with such grace and flavor that you can't help but follow along and get carried away with the party.
When I put it on the piano, my idea wasn't simply to repeat the melody, but to give it a more intimate feel without losing the joy that characterizes it. The piano, although it may seem serious, has the ability to become playful, rhythmic, and even "dancing" if you let it. I wanted each note to retain that Caribbean spirit, but at the same time show how a song full of percussion and color can also shine in a simple instrumental version.
The beautiful thing is that, even though there are no lyrics in this version, the melody alone tells the story. You can feel the celebration, the movement of the sea, the imaginary choruses of the fish... it's all there, hidden between the keys. Playing this song is like returning to childhood, to that feeling of carefree joy, to a time when anything seems possible.
I hope my piano version of "Under the Sea" brings the same smile to your face that it brings to me every time I play it. Because, in the end, that's what music does: it gives us back a little bit of happiness, even if it's just for a few minutes.
