Este fin de semana fuimos al río a pasar un tiempo agradable, ya que, últimamente hace bastante calor por aquí y bueno, fuimos a hacer un “Sancocho” como le decimos acá a las populares sopas hechas en leña a la orilla del río y les voy a mostrar un poco de lo que fue mi día allí.

This weekend we went to the river to have a good time, since it's been pretty hot around here lately, and well, we went to make a “Sancocho,” as we call the popular soups made over a wood fire on the riverbank, and I'm going to show you a little bit of what my day there was like.

Mi familia es amante a la naturaleza, a las plantas y la cultura, así que la mayoría de las veces en que hago mis viajes, siempre se encuentra presente parte de ella. Y esta vez no fue la excepción.

My family loves nature, plants, and culture, so most of the time when I travel, part of my family is always with me. And this time was no exception.

Ese día, nos dirigimos en moto, vía a Socopó/Barinas/Venezuela, a casa de unos familiares de mi cuñada, que tienen una granja pequeña, full de cacao, muy linda la verdad, y tienen un “Caño” un cauce pequeño del río principal, pasando por su granja, y como el lugar es propiedad privada, logramos disfrutar plenamente de este sitio y estar tranquilos en familia.

That day, we rode our motorcycles to Socopó/Barinas/Venezuela, to the home of some relatives of my sister-in-law, who have a small farm full of cacao trees. It's really beautiful, and they have a “Caño,” a small tributary of the main river that runs through their farm. Since the place is private property, we were able to fully enjoy this spot and relax with our family.

Al llegar allí, nos instalamos, dejamos nuestras cositas, empezamos a preparar lo que es el “Sancocho”, el cual llevaba, maíz, yuca, papa, carne de res, ocumo y por supuesto sus “Aliños” como le decimos acá en Venezuela a las hierbas y especias, que usamos para condimentar o sazonar las comidas. Por ahí me verán picando algunas verduras jeje, mi padre se encargó de encender el fuego, todos colaboramos e hicimos esta delicia de almuerzo.

When we got there, we settled in, put our things away, and started preparing what is known as “Sancocho,” which contained corn, yuca, potatoes, beef, taro, and, of course, “Aliños,” as we call herbs and spices here in Venezuela, which we use to season or flavor our food. You'll see me chopping some vegetables, haha. My father was in charge of lighting the fire, and we all worked together to make this delicious lunch.

Mientras esperamos por el almuerzo, comíamos algunos snacks; también aprovechamos para bañarnos allí en las aguas de este pequeño río. Disfruté mucho, la verdad, porque había “Chorreras” que es un torrente de agua que baja más fuerte en el río; también había un pozo muy bonito, que a pesar de que, como pueden ver allí en las imágenes, no es muy caudaloso la corriente, pero esto hacía que el lugar fuese perfecto para bañarse y para compartir.

While we waited for lunch, we ate some snacks; we also took the opportunity to bathe in the waters of this small river. I really enjoyed it, to be honest, because there were “Chorreras,” which are waterfalls that flow more strongly into the river. There was also a very beautiful pool, which, as you can see in the pictures, doesn't have a very strong current, but this made it the perfect place to swim and spend time together.

Me encanto la experiencia allí, fue muy divertido poder flotar en el cause, ya que, al no tener tanta corriente, se hacía mucho más fácil permanecer tranquilo, yo soy fan de escuchar el sonido del agua y de ver debajo de ella, ver los peces y las plantas acuáticas es alucinante.

I loved the experience there. It was so much fun to float in the river, because there wasn't much current, so it was much easier to stay calm. I love listening to the sound of the water and looking underneath it. Seeing the fish and aquatic plants is amazing.

Cada momento en familia y en lugares como este, es algo que todos deberían disfrutar, y como digo yo, no es el lugar, sino las personas que te acompañan, que hacen de tu día algo especial.

Every moment spent with family in places like this is something everyone should enjoy, and as I always say, it's not the place, but the people who accompany you that make your day special.
