Hello and welcome to my entry to the POBphotocontest
This is a fruit of a Prickly pear or Opuntia cactus. It is an unofficial Israeli national plant that signifies the Israeli spirit of survival in harsh surroundings. It is called "Sabres" in Israel and is used as a symbol of Israeli made products.
I found this plant thriving in "Hakaktusim Garden" in my hometown of Holon. It is a perfect subject for this contest.

Beware of the tiny thorns, if handled without protection they are very difficult to pull out.
The fruit is tasty and sweet but it requires a very thorough de-thorning before consumption.
