Today, I took my son to wash the car. Or rather, we took the car to a car wash. Something that is quite rare in Germany is very common here: you take your car to a car wash and the staff clean it inside and out. In Germany, you usually have to clean the interior yourself and only drive through the car wash for the exterior, which is usually not thorough enough. I just don't like using the vacuum cleaner myself, because it takes a lot of time and never really gets it clean. Here, we were done in 20 minutes and had a very clean car. It only cost €22, €4 of which was a tip, because it was really hard work.
I prefer manual labour and machines because every car is different, as is the degree of dirt. I don't like it and would leave it to someone who does it day in and day out because that person is more efficient. I also don't enjoy it. If I enjoyed it, I would probably do it myself. I'm more in favour of using my time more sensibly. I usually calculate my hourly rate and think about how long it would take. If it's cheaper to pay someone else to do it, then I'm happy to do that. I prefer to use my time for things that I enjoy or that bring me more income.
Sure, you can see it differently, but as long as you can't get back the time you've lost, I would use the time I've gained differently. While the car was being washed, I talked to my son, sent two important emails, and still had time to do some shopping. What do you think? Do you do things you don't want to do, even though it would make more sense to hand them over to someone else and pay that person?

Heute war ich mit meinem Sohn Auto waschen. Besser gesagt, wir haben das Auto in eine Waschanlage gebracht. Was in Deutschland eher selten ist, ist hier sehr häufig: Man bringt das Auto zu einer Autowäscherei und die Mitarbeiter reinigen es innen wie außen. In Deutschland muss man meistens selbst für die Innenreinigung sorgen und fährt nur für die Außenreinigung durch die Waschanlage, was meistens nicht gründlich genug ist. Ich mag es einfach nicht, dort selbst den Staubsauger zu bedienen, denn das kostet sehr viel Zeit und wird nie wirklich sauber. Hier waren wir nach 20 Minuten raus und hatten ein sehr sauberes Auto. Es hat nur 22 € gekostet, davon waren 4 € Trinkgeld, denn es war wirklich harte Arbeit.
Ich bevorzuge Handarbeit und Maschine, denn jedes Auto ist anders, ebenso wie der Verschmutzungsgrad. Ich mag es nicht und würde es jemandem überlassen, der es Tag für Tag macht, denn diese Person ist effizienter. Es macht mir auch keinen Spaß. Wenn es mir Spaß machen würde, würde ich es wahrscheinlich selbst machen. Ich bin eher für eine sinnvollere Nutzung der Zeit. Meistens rechne ich meinen Stundensatz aus und überlege, wie lange es dauern würde. Wenn es günstiger ist, es jemand anderem zu bezahlen, dann mache ich das gerne. Ich nutze meine Zeit lieber für Dinge, die mir Spaß machen oder mir mehr einbringen.
Klar, man kann es auch anders sehen, aber solange man die verlorene Lebenszeit nicht zurückholen kann, würde ich die gewonnene Zeit anders verwenden. Während das Auto gewaschen wurde, habe ich mit meinem Sohn gesprochen, zwei wichtige E-Mails versendet und hatte noch Zeit, etwas einzukaufen. Wie seht ihr das? Macht ihr Dinge, die ihr nicht möchtet, obwohl es sinnvoller wäre, diese an jemanden abzugeben und die Person zu bezahlen?
