Hey everyone and welcome! In today's post, I have some absolutely fantastic news to share... After playing Splinterlands for several years, I was finally able to complete my collection of all the core commons from the beta edition🥳. This goal has taken a significant amount of time, but I've finally been able to accomplish it. In today's post, I want to share why I decided to complete my beta common collection, a memorable deal along the way, and what's next.

Why Beta Commons??

Splinterlands has been around since 2018, and has released multiple expansion sets. Each of these expansion sets have iconic cards. So, why would I want to start collecting all the beta edition commons? There are three primary reasons that I decided to start collecting beta edition commons.

-Simply put, beta edition is a piece of Splinterlands history. When I started playing several years ago, Untamed and beta edition were the primary cards in circulation. So there's also a little bit of a nostalgia factor here.

-At least for me, collecting all of the beta edition commons was a perfect balance between accessibility, affordability, and connection to Splinterlands history. It would be amazing to have a complete set of legendaries from alpha edition, but let's be honest, that would be extremely expensive.

-They won't be there forever. I was watching a video of the Splinterlands card market several days ago, and noticed that the supply of some of the older cards was drying up. As someone who wants to preserve Splinterlands history, I realized that the longer I waited to start buying these commons, it might become more and more difficult, there might be fewer on the market, and I might not be able to get as good of a deal.

Building the Collection

As you can see in this image, I didn't have very many beta edition commons to start off with, so there were some pretty significant gaps in my collection that I needed to fill in. collecting commons before.png Luckily, beta edition commons are relatively inexpensive, and I was able to pick up many of them on Peak Monsters for a very reasonable price.

At first, my goal was simply to buy the cheapest card of every single beta common. However, I did have to make an exception when I got to Spineback Turtle. As I was looking at the marketplace, I saw that there were no 1 BCX copies of Spineback Turtle for sale. I had to choose between a level two or a level four. After considering everything, I decided to go with the level four, because Spineback Turtle gets thorns at level four. It was just a little bit more expensive, but I'm hoping that the Thorns ability will pay off on the battlefield.

The Set is Complete Now!

Why Digital Collectibles (Like Splinterlands) Are Amazing

As long as I can remember, I've loved collecting things. When I was younger, I used to collect marbles and Pokemon cards, and I still have pretty much my entire Pokemon collection to this very day. On one hand, that's a good thing. I like opening up my card collection and flipping through the cards. On the other hand, physical collections have a few drawbacks. The can be heavy. It can be difficult to sell them, and they take up a lot of physical space. Digital trading cards, such as Splinterlands NFTs, solve so many of these problems. When I buy a Splinterlands card, I don't have to worry that I'm accidentally going to spill water on it and ruin it. It doesn't take up any physical space, and it's incredibly easy to trade cards with anyone in the world directly through the online marketplace.

What's Next ???

Now that I've got all the core beta commons, I'm trying to think what I want to collect next. Do I want to focus on building up my modern deck with some of the newer cards, or do I want to keep looking for bargains on some of the older, nostalgic cards? I haven't made up my mind yet, but I'm leaning towards trying to get all of the Untamed commons next.
