Hello, splinter-cells. I hope you all are doing well.

Today, I want to share an A1 battle I've had in the previous season where I went up against an opponent who had a similar summoner as me with a little twist in our strategies.

Without further ado, let's begin!

Battle Conditions

The mana cap is 38, and there are 4 summoners to choose from: Fire, Nature, Life, and Dragon.

Battle Rules:-

  • Fog of War: Units lose Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity ability.
  • Ferocity: All units have fury.
  • Armoured Up: All monsters have +2 armour.

Keeping the mana cap, available summoners, and battle rules in mind, we both chose to have the Life Summoner's aid as we both had good monsters to choose from its arsenal.

Battle Details

Screenshot (742).png Let's start the deck deconstruction from my side:

Summoner: Franz Ruffmane(Ability: Increase in shield by 1 for all ally monsters and Grants the ability to summon 1 Gladiator monster).

Tank: Mantaroth(Ability: Shield, Armoured Strike).

Blocked Melee Attacker: Gargoya Scrapper(No Ability).

Magic Attackers: Time Mage(Ability: Slow, Captain Katie(Ability: Bloodlust).

Ranged Attackers: Pelacor Arbalest(Ability: Double Strike), Venari Marksrat(Ability: Martyr).

My true aim was to have my bloodthirsty monster at the back try and get a kill and thus trigger its bloodlust ability to have all stats increase by 1. As an insurance to increase the stats, I placed Markrat before Katie because of the martyr effect. My deck strategy included a tank that would receive half the incoming melee damage, a blocked melee attacker, a unit that would reduce the speed of all enemy units by 1, and a ranged attacker that would do double damage.

My overall damage is 12 per round with no increase in HP.

Now for the opposition's turn:

Summoner: Franz Ruffmane(Ability: Increase in shield by 1 for all ally monsters and Grants the ability to summon 1 Gladiator monster).

Tank: Drybone Barbarian(Ability: Enrage, Retaliate).

Melee Attacker: Marisol Contuma(Ability: Reach, Bloodlust).

Magic Attackers: Olivia of the Brook(No Ability), Time Mage(Ability: Slow).

Ranged Attacker: Venari Crystalsmith(Ability: Heal).

His strategy was to go for a full frontal attack from the front while trying to keep his tank alive and try to have his bloodthirsty monster get a final blow to increase all of its stats by 1. His deck also included a similar magic unit as mine for the same effect.

His overall damage per round is 13 with a healing of 2 HP.

Major Events

Round 2

Screenshot (743).png

The first monster to fall was my tank, making it a 5 v 5 as my overall damage decreased by 2.

Screenshot (744).png

Moments later, his tank also fell and thus reduced his overall damage by 5; this move evened the odds in my favour as we have a 4 v 5 situation.

Round 3

Screenshot (745).png

The third monster to fall was my last melee attacker, but thankfully, his gladiator unit did not get the final hit.

Round 5

Screenshot (747).png

At the start of the round, his gladiator unit fell before getting the chance to trigger the bloodlust ability.

Screenshot (748).png

Moments later, my Time Mage fell, making it advantageous for him as his units were no longer slow.

Round 6

Screenshot (749).png

Near the start of the round, the unit to fall was my Arbalest as it was just a sitting duck at the forefront of the deck. This was another huge blow toward my overall damage per round, reducing it to 3 damage per round, the same as him.

Screenshot (750).png

Near the end of the round, Olivia fell, and finally Katie triggered the bloodlust ability for the first time. This increased my overall damage by 1.

Round 7

Screenshot (751).png

Next, his Time Mage fell thanks to Katie and she triggered another bloodlust, making it a 2 v 1 with an overall of 5 damage per round.

Round 8

Screenshot (752).png Finally, at the start of the round, his only healer fell as Katie triggered her final bloodlust.

Results

As I had predicted, the moment Katie would trigger her bloodlust is when I would win since I put her at the end of the deck. According to the battle rules, no monster was going to get me from the back, and it was all a game of waiting patiently. The real problem would've been his gladiator unit that missed its chance to get the finishing blow on my Gargoya. This little turning point was where I was assured my victory even though he had a healer and an extra damage per round than me. This also proves that having a rare gladiator unit is not enough to guarantee victory; strategy is equally, if not more important.
