As someone who has finally graduated from senior high and is about to go to college, there are definitely a lot of stories and opinions that I can express about being a senior high student. I will not be explicitly disclosing the school I went to, but only the experiences I’ve gone through hehe. I’m blogging all my thoughts on my time there because it was literally two years of my life. Within that time, I met friends, mentors, fun experiences, and challenges.
Let’s get into it shall we?
FIRST DAY/WEEK OF SHS
When I first went to that new and big school as a scared 17-year-old, I was a little bit intimidated, but felt freedom for the first time in a while. I barely knew anyone in my class, all the people I knew were gathered in another section. I was asking myself “I know I wanted a change, but is this too big of a change?.” Growing up, I pretty much almost had the same classmates for 10 years, so senior high was the biggest change I ever went through.
So there I was, in a big classroom with no doors, long white tables and plastic chairs that I was quite familiar with (we have the same ones at home). Classmates filled the classroom are were already in their seats, I ended up sitting at the middle and front of the class because I wasn’t there early, students seem to love the seats at the back for obvious reasons lol. I was a little nervous about being sat at the front but I couldn’t really complain and could not move elsewhere, so I just sat there for a bit with the thought of the teacher changing our seating arrangements later on.
We did common first day of school activities like introducing ourselves and getting familiar with the school and class rules. But there was a group activity where we had to sing the school hymn, I got grouped with someone interesting. I sometimes found myself looking like this emoji (🤨) while looking at her because I thought she was a past schoolmate, I even gave her a name I thought she had in my brain at the time. Curiosity got the best of me despite my anxiousness to approach new people, I sat next to her and asked her if she went to my elementary school. Little did I know at the time, that was the first time I ever interacted with someone who eventually one of my bestest friends ever. Ironically, we knew the same person who happens to be my best friend too, Chloe. I gushed about her and this newfound friend did the same. The way she spoke about Chloe and her welcoming spirit drew me to her. So lucky to have met you when I did @rainebow0407. I also met my closest friends through her.
SECOND DAY
It was 7am at school, Raine, Jhai, another friend and I were hanging out outside our classroom while waiting for our teacher, then suddenly a guy approached me and my friends. He had snacks in his hand and put his hand out to me, giving me the snack. I had no idea what was going on, everyone was kind of giggling around us, my little lesbian self was so confused. I reluctantly received the snack he had given me and asked him who it was really from. He seemed really flustered and even got more flustered by my question that he did not answer. Note: I did not know the dude, so I was wondering why he would give me food, had no idea that he was showing romantic affection 😭. It was obvious enough that he was the one who really gave the snack. I was wayyy too into girls to think that a guy would hit on me lol. My new friends laughed at my reaction, because they thought it was odd, I ended up telling them that I only liked girls and that’s it for the second day.
Grade 11 was the “good old days”, I had the best grades. Was a with high honors student. Had a quite a lot of drama but nothing I couldn’t handle. I’d rate it a 8.5/10.
GRADE 12
THE ELECTION
Now, this grade was quite interesting. I had little to no plans for myself to take responsibilities in this grade, but somehow ended up becoming an officer. A treasurer at that. Handling money and asking people in my class for money when events come up. The work was tough but really fun since the auditor and mayor were my friends. I had a very interesting way of becoming the treasurer. The class was new so I did not know some of my classmates, when I was nominated, I was asked by Ms. C to go in front of the classroom to get questioned on my abilities. A classmate raised her hand, she was well dressed and spoke eloquently. She asked how I was going to prove transparency as the class treasurer since her class in grade 11 had a terrible experience with their last treasurer. I answered as honestly and as earnestly as I could with lists and updates. And so, I was selected as the class treasurer. Stupidly enough, at first I wanted to become the treasurer because of an idol I had on a show was a class treasurer, but I made sure that I took my work and duties seriously. That well spoken classmate of mine eventually became a very good friend of mine and eventually made jokes about my position that would have sent her past self into a frenzy HAHAHAHA.
As a member of the officers, I often end up going where the mayor went. She’s a good friend and we live quite close with each other. We would go and shop for upcoming events. Usually, it was just the two of us. The auditor (another close friend of mine) usually escaped from our clutches HAHAHA. In a way, these shopping days became our fun yet exhausting hang outs. We were hella stressed with managing the money and the things we bought, but we made it work with budgets and planning.
RANDOM CALLS
These calls were supposedly for studying purposes, but let’s just say that it turned out to be 80% chika (talking) and just goofing around. We would talk about events that happened in class or discuss questions that were present in exercises and quizzes. Miguel suggested the idea of having all of us in those calls. He’s a chill guy and is super smart. He would discuss why his answers and teach us how he got them. Along with Ninz (mayor) and Jam, they can really get serious when it comes to physics and our other subjects. Kim would come to our calls while he’s going somewhere or asks about our assignments or simply stays for the company and conversation. Sometimes we would wall for studying purposes but end up spilling tea and sharing our opinions about this and that person. It was quite fun cause I usually laugh at their descriptions and stuff. When things get quiet, Miguel would play Cueshe and we would all do our assignments quietly and occasionally ask questions here and there. Cueshe is now one of my favorite bands and I miss Miguel very much.
HAPPY PILL
For this blog, I’ll call her Isa. She loves bickering with Clark, numbers, and one characteristic I like about her most is that she laughs really easily. If you know me in real life, you can really say that my humor is quite corny. I crack a few jokes here and there, you laugh and you end up questioning your humor. I’m that type of person. With much honor, Isa here has named me her happy pill. She says that I’m funny in ways that she couldn’t explain, that I’m unintentionally funny. There was even a time where we were both laughing our butts off while I was breaking down, she was laughing the hardest. I WAS TRYING MY BEST NOT TO BREAK DOWN, AND THIS GIRL JUST LAUGHS. I was already laughing during that break down because I thought I was being silly, but I really felt like crying at the time so I did, while laughing lol. It was the best break down I ever had honestly. Isa, you need to know this in your heart: you are as much of a happy pill to me as I am to you. You bring me an immeasurable and unpredictable kind of joy when I am around you. Thank you!
HOUSE HANG OUTS
That was the best types of hang outs we had in grade 12, the best part about it is that they are never really planned. This is how it usually went, a person in our friend group asks when we’ll hang out outside of school and one person volunteers to hang out in their house and it doesn’t happen right away, only after a few weeks. The first hang out I remember was when we hung out in our other house for an assignment where we had to have a photoshoot by pairs. We had the best time of our lived there. Cooked some rice and noodles for lunch, we are students after all. We all had makeup on for the photoshoot, but a friend certainly stood out. His face was fainted white to look like joker for the photoshoot.
I paired up with my beloved auditor and we SLAYED! Here are our raw photos:
For what it’s worth, I am genuinely thankful for the senior high school experience. I am fortunate to have met different types of people during my time there. And shout out to Ms. C for being the best SHS adviser out there fr, gave us so much grace and had so much faith in us as a class and individually as her students. Love her sm!
Here's a pic of her:
This is the end of this piece, I could talk about more things about shs, but this is all I have for now my dear readers. Thank you so much for sticking around and reading my post. Good night, good afternoon, and/or good night my fellow Hivers! I’ll see you all in the next one 🩵
