Just as she was about to quit her job, her boss offered her the promotion she stopped hoping for months ago. At that point Kate was taken aback. She does not know what to do.
Having worked for eight years in Hill Crest Pharmacy, Kate was due for promotion after eighteen months. She got her first promotion well on time. When she was due for the second one it also came as expected. She felt more relaxed with the job and put all her efforts in it.
Everybody in Hill Crest Pharmacy knows the worth of Kate. She is dedicated, hardworking and punctual. She does not play with her job. Always on her duty post whenever one calls. This has earned her numerous awards as the best staff of the company.
But things started taking a downward trend when a new Chief Executive was appointed for the company. Kate was due for promotion as the secretary of the company. She expected it to happen just like her past promotions, yet it did not. She maintained her cool.
But having hoped for it for months she decided to lower her expectations. But one thing bothers her really. No one was appointed in that capacity even when there is obvious need for same. The last person to occupy that seat had retired and the vacant position naturally falls on her as the next in line.
But just like a thunderbolt, a Junior staff was promoted to that position. Kate became enraged and dissilussioned at the same time. How can that be? Something she has patiently waited for months now. She quickly rushed to her computer and typed her resignation letter.
And just as she was about to print and hand in her resignation and quit the job her phone started ringing. It was the new Chief Executive Officer. At first she hesitated to pick the call but on a second thought she decided to picked it. She heard the panicky voice of the chief Executive Officer who explained to her that she has been offered the position of the company secretary. He went on to explain to her about the mistake in the letter already used to her Junior colleague who was erroneously appointed to the said position.
Kate smiled to herself then tried to calm the tension that was already building up in her. She tried to clear her head of all the fuss and finally said popped out "okay sir. It's my pleasure"'.
