Most of last year I was as healthy as a newborn until the ending part of the year when I got mixed up with a strange illness which almost took my life, no joking.

It all started with a strange headache and dizziness. Whenever I walked the roads I felt as though I would fall into the path of an oncoming vehicle. I walked even short distances with great difficulty. The first thought that occurred to me was I had been infected with malaria.

That night I came home and lay on the bed, tired. I had had my dinner, though i didnt eat much because I had little appetite.

I heard my father's voice asking about me. He was at the balcony.

“He's not well.” My younger brother who was in the room replied.

I was lying on the bed and shivering like an old man.

There was a moment of silence, then my father replied:

“He has to take some drugs. Give him some of that malaria drugs that was bought.”

My brother gave me the tablets and I took them and lay down again.

But I didn't get better. The next day the sickness got worse. I was feeling feverish and chilly at the same time and I had a headache and felt very weak. Pain wracked every part of my body. Going from one room to another was a lot of labour.

Since the drugs had little to no effect, I had to take injections. Some tests were ran and the results said I had typhoid and malaria. I took the injections.

The injections I took didnt have a lot of effect on the illness, so I took another round of injections. By this time I knew this was no ordinary illness.

The situation came to a head when one of my maternal uncles, a doctor, paid us a visit. He made some observations about my illness and made prescriptions. He went and purchased the drugs. He gave injections and told me to take the drugs later. That's from where my recovery began.

Little by little I started getting my strength back.

From the time the illness started to the time I started recovering was about a month. Throughout the illness I didn't leave the house.

After taking the injections prescribed by my uncle, the fever, headaches vanished but I stilled felt very tired. I had to drink the infused leaves of a certain plant to recover my strength.

I will never forget this time of my life. I have suffered malaria and typhoid attacks but never on this magnitude. It was certain I got mixed up with a reallt strange illness. In the past, whenever I had malaria attacks, I could still move around and attend to chores in the house and attend social events and the malaria would vanish if I took drugs. But this was entirely different. To be truthful, I felt like I wasnt going to survive.
