When we carefully go through the Word of God we come to realize that obeying God's commandments and doing His will is for our benefit. However, if we choose to neglect God's will and decide to walk in contrary to it then we have ourselves to blame for whatever outcome that occurs. God would never force or impose Himself on us to do that which is right even if it's for our own good. When we see evil happenings around us they didn't just happen on their own. Our choices and decisions affect the things that we see happening today. As God's creations we are expected to maintain a close relationship with Him and that is achieved by walking in His ways and statues and not departing from them. When we begin to go contrary to His ways it brings about separation between us and God. And separation between us and God and never a good thing. We see the case of Adam and Eve and what separation between them and God affected them.
Separation from God is a very critical situation because it means us being separated from our source. Imagine a branch being separated from a tree, the next thing we see is that the leaves and everything in that branch dies over time. That is why God told Adam and Eve that they will die if they disobey and eat of the tree He forbade them to it. After they ate it they were still leaving and breathing at the moment. But after a period of time, they died. Whereas, God's purpose for them was for them to never experience death. God wants the best for us, but we have to play our own part by walking with Him.
