But as believers, we are not alone, because we have a High priest, Jesus Christ, who does understand. He became human, not just to save us, but to walk in our shoes and experience life as we do. Just as the Jewish High Priest was chosen from among men and was expected to show compassion, so too, Jesus took on flesh and blood to fully identify with us.
Hebrews 2:14 – Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil
This is the beauty of Christ's compassion. He understands not from a distance, but from experience. If we carefully notice, when we go through certain hardships, we're more compassionate towards others facing similar struggles. That's because pain produces empathy. But when we haven't "been there," we often fall into the trap of self-righteousness, acting like "little gods," judging others instead of showing mercy. God calls us to be compassionate in our dealings with others. That's what it truly means to be Christlike. Instead of finding faults or tearing others down, we are to lift them up. Constant fault finding isn't what God expects us to do, it grieves the heart of God.
