The bible puts it simply in Ephesians 5:10; "proving what is acceptable unto the Lord." Thankfully, scripture gives us a powerful example of someone who pleased God. Noah. In Noah's days, the world had become corrupt and self-centered. People lived only for themselves, ignoring God entirely. The situation was so bad that God considered wiping out humanity altogether. Yet in the midst of this dark world, one man stood out:
Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Noah's life teaches us key truths about what pleases God. God is pleased when we love Him supremely. Above all else, God wants a relationship with you. He created you out of love and desires your love in return. This is the most important pursuit of your life, to know God and love Him back. God doesn't want our sacrifices, He wants our love. Beyond our offerings, what He wants more is that we know Him. Hosea 6 vs 6 made this known to us.
