Food consumption is no doubt a very important aspect among the basic needs of we humans. But before consuming these substances it is very important to note that what we take can either be of good to our body or not. Amongst different forms of safety that aims at preserving lives and health such as checking both sides of the road before going ahead to cross, or avoiding lighting a cigarette when you’re in the gas station, or washing your hands after using the toilet, there’s also a form of security attached to food.
In simple terms, food safety has to do with how safe enough it is for us to consume food. But there are a lot of factors surrounding this which helps us determine how safe it is for us to consume anything. To me, food consumption is something that is very crucial as far as our health is concerned. This is the reason why I personally find it difficult eating in anyhow places outside. I don’t know if it has to do with trust issues but I find it somewhat risky consuming something that I don’t know the condition of the environment it was when it was being prepared or the things involved during the preparation.
Honestly, the risks we take each day unknowingly can really amaze us if we actually knew the risks involved in the things we do.
I say this because of the experience I had while working in a hotel one certain time. The hotel happened to sell catfish to customers who sometimes came to chill at the bar and also delivered to the rooms of those who felt like spending the night. There were times that we came to the pond where the catfishes were and we would find some dead. Instead of encountering loss, we would pick up the catfish and put it in the refrigerator, waiting for the next catfish order so that we can sell it to those who placed the order. Which is very risky to the human health.
As appetizing and tantalizing as a dish may appear before our eyes, there are important things to consider also such as how the food was handled before it got to the plate such as the preparation, the nature of the environment, hygienic measures such as washing the hands before cooking and the tools you used as well. There’s a common saying that goes: we are what we eat. This is very true. To a large extent, what we eat can either make us healthy or unhealthy.
Taking intentionally steps also during storing food is very important. Putting food inside the refrigerator at a very low temperature helps in preserving food by far. If it has to do with heating the food then we should not leave it too long after it is cooked before we do so. What we eat also matters. Ensuring the right measures towards food safety can really go a long way in sustaining our health. It’s something we shouldn’t joke about.
