Last Saturday was one of those days I’ll always remember. After a busy week at work, my colleagues and I decided to take a short trip to Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, just to ease stress and have some fun together. It turned out to be more refreshing than I imagined.
Olumo Rock is not just an ordinary tourist centre; it carries history that dates back to the 19th century. During inter-tribal wars, the Egba people used the rock as a fortress, hiding in its caves and surviving for months. That sense of history is still alive when you climb and see the caves, shrines, and carvings around the rock. It feels like walking through the footsteps of ancestors.
We all went as a team, and interestingly, my colleagues wore our official blue outfit. I decided to look different that day, wearing a white top and yellow trouser. Honestly, I just wanted to stand out and bring some color into the group. It even became a talking point as we laughed and took pictures.
Some of the features I really enjoyed about Olumo Rock were the stairways carved into the rock, the ancient carvings on the walls, and the breathtaking view at the top. From there, you can see the whole city of Abeokuta spread out like a painting. The atmosphere was calm, the air was fresh, and it gave me that feeling of freedom away from daily office routines.
Though it is a brief visit but visiting places like such reminds me that life isn’t only about work. Sometimes we need to pause, explore, and connect with nature and history. That short visit left me with renewed energy, laughter with my colleagues, and memories I will always cherish forever. I will love to have more of this experience.
