A Shot of Drink: Vodka Day

Today we return with a new edition of the series A SHOT OF DRINK, whose intention is to publicize general information about beverages in the world, through its ephemeris; and as we have previously said, although we are not experts or connoisseurs of the subject, we believe that the world of drinks, juices, teas, cocktails, smoothies and others is very exciting and varied, and some general culture is good for all of us.

The next Saturday, October 4 is a special day: We're celebrating the day of a beverage that, although originally from Eastern Europe, is now internationally recognized. It's consumed year-round and is combined and flavored in a multitude of ways, serving as the base for many delicious cocktails. We're talking about: VODKA.

It is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from rye, wheat, potatoes, or beets. Its alcohol content can range from 40% to 80%, although this varies. Its color is clear, like water, hence the name "VODKA," which means "WATER" (in Slavic). There is a variety of sparkling vodka, which is carbonated vodka.

*** The vodka is used as an ingredient in many cocktails, such as the Bloody Mary, Caipiroska, Cosmopolitan, Screwdriver, Sex on the Beach, among others; so, it can be said that it's a widely used liquor in modern cocktails. That's why every October 4th, International Vodka Day is celebrated, as a way to recognize its importance and also boost its consumption worldwide. *** Vodka can be flavored by steeping certain ingredients in it, such as grapes, peaches, cherries, and citrus fruits. Herbs and spices can also be steeped in it, allowing the liquor to absorb the flavor of the added ingredient. And, do you like vodka?
