Right away after hearing the track, I knew that I wanted to do something with it. Summer is usually not a very good time for me to work on musical projects, so it sat in my mind for a while before I finally decided to fire up Audacity and work on adding some tracks to the song. I ended up adding a bass track, a distorted guitar track, and a vocal harmony to the track. For the bass track, I plugged the bass guitar directly into the audio interface and recorded the track. For the distorted guitar track, I ran the guitar through my vintage Rat distortion pedal and ran that directly into the audio interface. My Focusrite Scarlett Solo audio interface has a high impedance input that is switchable between line level and instrument level sensitivity, so I can run effects pedals directly into the interface. The last track that I did was to add a harmony vocal to the chorus of the song, and a couple of other places. I was pretty happy with the results, so I sent the resulting mix to Jen for her approval before writing this post.
