The prelude to the autumn equinox
**
Okay so the weirdest thing on that Algonquin trip? Giant candy. I'm not kidding, just lining this random trail in the middle of the woods. A short break from the main route before the guide brought us back together.
My son, Matthew, just stared at them. He’s not a big theme park kid has this funny line about “not overdoing the adrenaline” so our trips are always more… woods and trails, you know? This was back in the spring. We'd taken a super early bus from the Dufferin Mall, I think I slept most of the way to be honest. That shortened the journey for me. Matthew enjoyed the animated film.

Anyway, already in the park, he saw another little girl poking one of the giant lollipops and he totally wanted to taste it. Had to break the news to him that they were fake, haha. Tried to get him to at least pretend for a photo, you know, for his mom? But he went all shy on me. Kids. So we never got the picture.
That whole trip feels like ages ago now. He's already back in Quebec with his mom, getting ready to start 3rd grade at Roslyn. Summer's over, just like that. And now it's basically fall. Precisely today, September 22nd, a time of balance between the hours of sunlight and darkness as a result of the equinox.

Which is still crazy to me sometimes. The seasons, I mean. Coming from the Caribbean where anything below 20C is basically a state of emergency… yeah, it took me a solid three years to stop being cold all the time. My blood finally thickened up or something. Now I actually look forward to it. We're already planning Thanksgiving for Oct 13th. I've been put in charge of the roast turkey. Big responsibility.
