Superado el Trastorno Afectivo Estacional
Los colores son frecuencias, así lo percibe el ojo humano y nuestro cerebro, conociendo de antemano esas frecuencias, le asigna a cada una un mundo de sensaciones. Hace poco participamos en una iniciativa que hacía referencia a tres colores básicos: rojo, azul y amarillo, cada quien se adaptó al pigmento con el cual se identificaba. En esta segunda parte de la iniciativa propuesta por @emiliorios, se apunta solo al verde que asumo en sus diferentes matices, ya que la naturaleza es el gran artista.
Inicio mi percepción del pigmento verde, el cual se enmarca en el espectro visible de la luz, con longitudes de onda que se sitúan aproximadamente entre los 495 y los 570 nanómetros. Es una tonalidad central en el espectro y se percibe gracias a los conos receptores de color en el ojo humano. Disculpen el tecnicismo, pero son importantes para mí estos aspectos, porque el color verde es un color que se encuentra en el centro del rango visible de luz y por ello el equilibrio emocional que causa. Sí, amigos, el pigmento verde se asocia con el equilibrio emocional por su conexión con la naturaleza, el crecimiento y la tranquilidad, lo que genera un efecto calmante y relajante en nosotros. Para la mayoría, estadísticamente hablando, simboliza la armonía y la renovación, ayudando a reducir el estrés y a promover una sensación de seguridad y bienestar.
Recuerdo que, la usuaria @ksolymosi (Psicóloga) tocó este mismo tema de los colores y el volcán de sentimientos y reacciones en las personas. Con relación al color verde, puedes leer en su publicación The Psychology of Colours (Part 5) - Forest Green los aspectos que he hecho mención y ampliar el tema.
Ahora bien, ya nos encontramos en contexto para introducir lo que para mí ha sido esa pigmentación verde a lo largo de estos últimos quince años. El color verde definitivamente lo asocio con la libertad y la esperanza, como un símbolo de prosperidad, el crecimiento y los nuevos comienzos. Me detengo en la expresión “luz verde” que indica paso libre, ya de seguro saben a qué me refiero. Pues para mí ha sido mi autoafirmación y mi equilibrio, algo que disfruto con cada amanecer y la puesta del sol, contemplando la naturaleza que puedo ver desde mi balcón acompañado de una taza de café…
Pues bien, ese es mi punto de vista, pero me he codeado con otras culturas donde el color verde tiene diferentes connotaciones, sabemos que en Occidente es el color de la buena suerte, la virtud, esperanza, fertilidad y nuevos comienzos, eso me imagino, ha quedado claro. Por el contrario, en Indonesia, por ejemplo, es un color prohibido. En el Norte de África representa corrupción y está vinculado a la cultura del narcotráfico. En China, si a un hombre se le regala un sombrero verde significa infidelidad y simboliza vergüenza. Por esto, no es un color recomendable para el diseño de carteras, maletas o embalajes en general. Esto se debe a que el significado de los colores representa las vivencias pasadas de cada cultura y se plasma en interpretaciones, significados y creencias sociales. Recién llegado a Canadá, los dos primeros años con la entrada del invierno, padecí lo que aquí denominan “trastorno afectivo estacional (TAE)”, un tipo de depresión relacionada con el cambio de estaciones. Durante los meses de invierno, cuando la luz del día es limitada, los entornos verdes se vuelven blancos, la recomendación efectiva fue, ambientar el interior de la casa y el arbolito de Navidad cumple muy bien esa terapia, ayudándome a mitigar esos efectos negativos. Ya hoy, lo he superado, como he dicho en otras publicaciones, somos seres adaptativos. El color verde y el olor a naturaleza viva están intrínsecamente ligados, ya que el verde es el color más común en el mundo natural, es para mi símbolo de vida, crecimiento y renovación, tal cual lo es cada estación del año en esta hermosa tierra donde resido desde hace 15 años. Este color evoca olores frescos como los de la menta y el eucalipto, transmitiendo sensaciones de frescura, vitalidad y paz. Cuando llueve, el petricor es una caricia para mis pulmones, el color verde es en sí, el alma viva de la naturaleza.

Colours are frequencies, as perceived by the human eye and our brain. Knowing these frequencies in advance, it assigns a world of sensations to each one. We recently participated in an initiative that referred to three basic colours: red, blue and yellow. Each person adapted to the pigment with which they identified. In this second part of the initiative proposed by @emiliorios, the focus is solely on green, which I assume in its different shades, since nature is the great artist.
I begin my perception of the colour green, which falls within the visible spectrum of light, with wavelengths ranging from approximately 495 to 570 nanometres. It is a central hue in the spectrum and is perceived thanks to the colour-receptive cones in the human eye. Please excuse the technicality, but these aspects are important to me because green is a colour found in the centre of the visible light range and therefore causes emotional balance. Yes, friends, the green pigment is associated with emotional balance because of its connection to nature, growth and tranquillity, which has a calming and relaxing effect on us. For most people, statistically speaking, it symbolises harmony and renewal, helping to reduce stress and promote a sense of security and well-being.

Now, we are ready to introduce what this green pigmentation has meant to me over the last fifteen years. I definitely associate the colour green with freedom and hope, as a symbol of prosperity, growth and new beginnings. I pause at the expression ‘green light’ which indicates free passage, and I am sure you know what I mean. For me, it has been my self-affirmation and my balance, something I enjoy with every sunrise and sunset, contemplating the nature I can see from my balcony accompanied by a cup of coffee...
Well, that's my point of view, but I've rubbed shoulders with other cultures where the colour green has different connotations. We know that in the West it's the colour of good luck, virtue, hope, fertility and new beginnings, which I imagine is clear. On the contrary, in Indonesia, for example, it's a forbidden colour. In North Africa, it represents corruption and is linked to the culture of drug trafficking. In China, if a man is given a green hat, it signifies infidelity and symbolises shame. For this reason, it is not a recommended colour for the design of handbags, suitcases or packaging in general. This is because the meaning of colours represents the past experiences of each culture and is reflected in interpretations, meanings and social beliefs. During the winter months, when daylight is limited and green surroundings turn white, the effective recommendation was to decorate the interior of the house, and the Christmas tree fulfils that therapy very well, helping me to mitigate those negative effects. Today, I have overcome it. As I have said in other posts, we are adaptive beings. The colour green and the smell of living nature are intrinsically linked, as green is the most common colour in the natural world. For me, it is a symbol of life, growth and renewal, just as each season of the year is in this beautiful land where I have lived for 15 years. This colour evokes fresh scents such as mint and eucalyptus, conveying feelings of freshness, vitality and peace. When it rains, the petrichor is a caress for my lungs; the colour green is, in itself, the living soul of nature.
