Hay temas que nos dejan sin palabras, y el cáncer es uno de ellos. Para mí, no es una estadística; tiene el rostro de las personas que más he amado. La partida de mi padre, tras su batalla con el cáncer de páncreas, y luego la de mi madre, a consecuencia del cáncer de mama, dejaron una herida que el tiempo no cierra, solo enseña a sobrellevar.
Fui testigo de cómo esta enfermedad actúa casi como una fuerza de la naturaleza, implacable y silenciosa. Te hace sentir pequeño, impotente. Ves a los médicos, a los investigadores, entregando su vida en laboratorios, luchando contra algo que parece tener sus propias reglas, casi indescifrable. Es una batalla que se libra en el silencio de un microscopio y en el estruendo de una quimioterapia.
Y en medio de esa impotencia, surge una luz que nos mantiene en pie. Es la fe en la ciencia y en la tenacidad humana. Es el sueño colectivo de la cura del cáncer, una esperanza humana para prolongar la vida y su calidad. Quizás no llegó a tiempo para mis padres, pero su recuerdo es el motor que me impulsa a creer en un futuro donde otras familias no tengan que contar esta misma historia. Esa esperanza, nacida del amor y la pérdida, es el legado más fuerte que me dejaron.

There are topics that leave us speechless, and cancer is one of them. For me, it's not a statistic; it bears the face of the people I've loved most. The passing of my father, after his battle with pancreatic cancer, and then my mother's, as a result of breast cancer, left a wound that time doesn't heal; it only teaches us to cope.
I witnessed how this disease acts almost like a force of nature, relentless and silent. It makes you feel small, powerless. You see the doctors, the researchers, giving their lives in laboratories, fighting against something that seems to have its own rules, almost indecipherable. It's a battle waged in the silence of a microscope and the roar of chemotherapy.
And amidst that helplessness, a light emerges that keeps us going. It is faith in science and human tenacity. It is the collective dream of a cure for cancer, a human hope for prolonging life and its quality. Perhaps it didn't arrive in time for my parents, but their memory is the driving force that compels me to believe in a future where other families won't have to tell this same story. That hope, born of love and loss, is the strongest legacy they left me.
