Accountability makes you valuable. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you have to be accountable to yourself first before you can ever be accountable to others.

Can you be held to your word?

In my opinion, the worst people to work with or do business with are people who have zero accountability. Why would I want to put my money in the hands of someone who can’t keep to their commitments.

The moment you put words out there, you must put in the work to match them. Let your results speak for you. Nothing is more irritable than working with people who refuse to own up to their mistakes and instead blames others. Accountability is not always easy, but it’s a necessity for smooth and sturdy life.

There are two kinds of people;

Those who always comes back with excuses and those who come back with results. Being accountable means bringing results and not excuses. So, as long as it is within your power, make it happen.

When you’re accountable, people trust you. And trust is powerful. I believe the fastest way to influence is by compounding trust.

People naturally want to work with someone who delivers, someone they can count on. No one enjoys disappointment. Accountability matters not just in business but also in personal relationships. Everyone loves that friend who shows up, not the one who makes promises and follows up with excuses.

Being nonchalant can be unconscious sometimes, or is it? Do people intentionally disappoint, knowing the consequences of their actions?

These are questions I ask myself. Because disappointment is one of the hardest feelings to get over. It’s a feeling people don’t want to experience twice. Once you let someone down, you’ve broken their trust. Even if they give you another chance, they’ll always expect to be disappointed again.

Better a broken arm than a broken trust.

If you’re not accountable, then you’re lazy. Sometimes, all it takes is suffering a little discomfort to produce result. But here’s the truth, if you can’t even be accountable to yourself, you have no business working or committing to anyone else.

Building personal accountability will be a good way to start working on yourself. Keep those promises you make to yourself. Go out of your way to get things done. Make intentional and calculated moves. Once you master this with yourself, it becomes second nature not to disappoint others.

As challenging as it might seem at first, being accountable will aways pay off. it’ll show in your character, your results and your relationships. Face your commitments head on. Think before you speak. Don’t make promises lightly but when you do, follow through.

Whenever you disappoint people, you proving to them that your words carry no weight. But when you keep your words, you plant seeds that build trust, credibility and Influence.

Find one area of your life and begin working on accountability there. Remember the little seeds you plant to today is what will feed you tomorrow.
