Buen día a todos, comenzaron las vacaciones de invierno y uno de los lugares que siempre mi hija ha querido visitar es el Cabildo de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, ya que es uno de los principales temas de historia que siempre abordan en clases y más cuando se acercan las fechas patrias del país. Por lo tanto, el día hoy quiero compartir la visita que hice con mi familia a este importante e histórico lugar.
Good morning, everyone. Winter break has begun, and one of the places my daughter has always wanted to visit is the Cabildo of the City of Buenos Aires, as it is one of the main historical topics they always cover in class, especially as the country's national holidays approach. So today, I want to share with you the visit I made with my family to this important and historic place.
La visita al Cabildo estaba planeada desde hace mucho tiempo atrás, pero nunca nos habíamos decidido a ir. Así que, aprovechando este descanso de clases, tomamos el rumbo hacia la calle Bolívar con altura N°65, donde esta ubicado el primer cabildo de Argentina, la cual inicio su construcción en el año 1725 e inaugurado en el año 1748. Después de aquí, ha tenido muchas reconstrucciones, pero aquí iniciaron a formalizar las reuniones políticas entre las altas autoridades de la nación, todas ellas bajo la administración de la colonia española que reinaba en ese momento. Una institución que ahora se convirtió en un museo y que permanece en el mismo lugar, frente a la plaza principal de la ciudad como lo es la Plaza de Mayo, la Casa Rosada (casa presidencial) e importantes edificios a su alrededor.
The visit to the Cabildo had been planned for a long time, but we had never decided to go. So, taking advantage of this break from classes, we headed to Bolívar Street, No. 65, where Argentina's first Cabildo is located. Its construction began in 1725 and it was inaugurated in 1748. Since then, it has undergone many renovations, but it was here that political meetings between the nation's high authorities began to be formalized, all under the administration of the Spanish colony that ruled at the time. An institution that has now become a museum and remains in the same place, opposite the city's main square, Plaza de Mayo, the Casa Rosada (presidential house) and important buildings around it.
Al entrar al lugar, había una bienvenida por el personal del museo, con artesanía y folletos descriptivos de los espacios con sus respectivas exhibiciones, así que, iniciamos recorriendo la planta baja, con la exposición a primera vista de la vestimenta utilizada por el alférez real, la cual era un funcionario honorifico que se encargaba de representar al rey en los actos públicos, era prácticamente la imagen real ante la sociedad. Allí también pudimos observar los emblemas y detalles que conforman el escudo de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, todos asociados al poder de la corona española que regía en esos tiempos sobre el país. Una habitación complementada con cuadros con personajes influyentes de la época.
Upon entering the museum, we were welcomed by the staff, who provided us with handicrafts and brochures describing the different spaces and their respective exhibits. We began our tour on the ground floor, where we saw the clothing worn by the royal ensign, an honorary official who represented the king at public events and was practically the royal image before society. There we could also see the emblems and details that make up the coat of arms of the city of Buenos Aires, all associated with the power of the Spanish crown that ruled the country at that time. A room complemented with paintings of influential figures of the era.
Como había indicado anteriormente, el lugar ha tenido varias reparaciones, pero años atrás cuando hacían excavaciones, encontraban restos de maderas y materiales de hierros que utilizaban para las rejas y bisagras, pasando a ser estos, muestras de la historia de construcción de este cabildo. Otro objeto que me llamo la atención, fue un cofre de hierro, utilizado para recolectar las monedas productos de los tributos hacia la corona española, es decir, era la caja fuerte para resguardar ese dinero.
As I mentioned earlier, the site has undergone several repairs, but years ago, when excavations were carried out, they found remains of wood and iron materials that were used for the railings and hinges, which became examples of the history of the construction of this town hall. Another object that caught my attention was an iron chest used to collect coins from taxes paid to the Spanish crown, that is, it was the safe used to store that money.
Otro aspecto importante del cabildo, es que aquí estuvo la primera cárcel transitoria de la ciudad, había 5 calabozos, en su mayoría las personas que encarcelaban no cometían delitos, sino alguna desobediencia, esposas, esclavos, hijos, eran enviados allí por sus padres o dueños como castigo. Realmente cruel e ilógico, pero bueno, esa época era así, menos mal que solo quedan los recuerdos enmarcados, como los grilletes y los calabozos, pero cerrados.
Another important aspect of the town hall is that it was home to the city's first temporary prison. There were five cells, and most of the people imprisoned there had not committed crimes, but rather acts of disobedience. Wives, slaves, and children were sent there by their parents or owners as punishment. It was truly cruel and illogical, but that's how things were back then. Thankfully, all that remains are framed memories, such as the shackles and cells, but they are now closed.
Por otro lado, encontramos lo interesante de como era su artesanía como, por ejemplo: realizar velas, instrumentos de cocina, el mobiliario, entre otros.
On the other hand, we find it interesting to learn about their crafts, such as making candles, kitchen utensils, furniture, among others.
En la parte de arriba, nos muestran un poco más de la historia, representadas en maquetas y pinturas. Una muy buena manera para entender del pasado del país y ver cómo se logró llegar a la tan deseada democracia. En definitiva, muy interesante en instructiva para todos.
Upstairs, they show us a little more of the history, represented in models and paintings. It's a great way to understand the country's past and see how it achieved its long-awaited democracy. All in all, it's very interesting and informative for everyone.
Como toda casa antigua, tiene su correspondiente patio, hasta con un árbol de naranjas nos topamos, a su alrededor hay varias habitaciones recreando la artesanía fina, los artículos que usaban las personas de alta alcurnia, es decir, esto es el lado opuesto a las acciones horribles que se cometían en los calabozos.
Like all old houses, it has its own courtyard, where we even found an orange tree. Around it are several rooms recreating fine craftsmanship and the items used by people of high social standing, which is the opposite of the horrible acts that were committed in the dungeons.
Este recorrido nos llevó al pasado, las instalaciones están muy conservadas y con un personal amable y dispuesto aclarar cualquier duda que se tenga. Fue muy grato hacerlo en familia y compartir estos nuevos conocimientos con nuestra hija es gratificante.
This tour took us back in time. The facilities are very well preserved and the staff are friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. It was very enjoyable to do it as a family and sharing this new knowledge with our daughter is rewarding.
