Last night, my 3rd birth child, I went on a dinner date to spend some quality time with my 16-year-old daughter. Some moments in life stay with us. They don’t need to wait for a special event to treat our child. Even with my small kids, I make time for my big one. They need me too. Small moments still matter. She said she wanted Nando’s. A small request, but it made me smile. As a parent, there is joy in hearing what your child wants. And I told her you are the boss tonight, baby, your wish is my command. The restaurant was full.
I felt sad, but she smiled, ‘It’s okay.’ She was happy just with me. Soon we got a table. It felt like a gift.” We ordered food. We sat and talked. She told me about school and friends. I listened to her. She laughed, and I smiled. I was happy she shared with me. She asked me for advice. I felt proud because she trusted me. The food came hot and fresh. We ate, shared, and laughed. Not just the food is delicious, but the moment between mother and daughter. After the meal,
I asked, “Did you enjoy it?” She looked at me, smiled, and simply said, “Yes.” That one word felt like everything. Then she asked, “Can we watch a movie?” I said yes. We watched a movie. We ate popcorn while watching, talked softly, and laughed at the jokes. Sitting close, I felt happy with her. When the movie ended, I thought about the night. It wasn’t just dinner and a film. It was a memory, another moment to remember not for but also for her. As we walked back, she was happy, and my heart was full. I saw that the best gift is not things, but time together. This night showed me how strong the love is between parent and child. For me, it was one of the best nights.
