Last Sunday, my husband’s aunt and uncle came to visit us. In the evening, my in-laws also came for dinner. We all sat together at home. The children played around, and the adults talked. The Christmas tree we were setting up. We plan a dinner for Uncle Laz since he always talks about Christmas, so we put up the Christmas tree for him. The children helped to put up the decorations earlier. They took the balls and hung them on the branches. Sometimes they put them low, sometimes high. They laughed and enjoyed doing it. Everyone was happy to see them busy with the tree. And dinner is ready, we all sat at the table. There was food for everyone. There was chicken, vegetables, and some other dishes. On the table there was water, juice, and wine. Everyone took food on their plate. We poured drinks into the glasses. We lifted our glasses and said “cheers.”
My husband’s uncle made a joke about the wine glass. Everyone laughed. The children ate quickly and then went back to the Christmas tree. They looked at the balls again and talked to each other. My husband’s aunt told us some stories about when her children were young. We listened and laughed with her. At the table, the adults talked about family and life. My in-laws shared stories about the past. Everyone listened. Sometimes my husband added funny comments. Everyone laughed again. The mood was light and easy. The children came back to the table when we asked them to eat more. They ate vegetables while waiting for dessert. They wanted to finish quickly so they could play more. We reminded them to eat slowly. They agreed and finished their plates.
Dinner took some time. They keep on refilling their plates. Some took more chicken, some took more vegetables. The glasses were lifted many times for cheers. And while at the table, all were talking, eating, and smiling. Later in the night, everyone felt full. The children slowed down after playing and eating. The adults sat together and continued talking. The food was finished, and the table was not as busy as before. Before leaving, my husband’s aunt and uncle thanked us. They said they enjoyed the evening. My in-laws also thanked us for the dinner. Their kind words made me feel happy. It was not a big event. It was a simple dinner. But it was nice because we were all together. The family gathered, ate, and talked. The children played and laughed. The adults shared stories. It’s really had a good time. When the guests left, we cleaned the table. The children were tired but still smiling. The Christmas tree was still shining in the corner. I looked at it and thought about the evening. It was simple but full of love. Family time is always special. That night gave us good memories to keep.
