One metric I have been keeping my eyes on my fitness journey is VO2 max. Looking back on past data, I have actually increased about a full point from 37 to 38 ml/kg/min.
For my age, my results are "Fair" which I suppose is not terrible being that I am on the old end of the age range. If I had a time machine, I am curious what my results would have been in my early thirties.
In any case, I will be on the young side of the next bracket very soon so we should see how it changes relative to that group after next month. Based on the following infographic, it would seem I will be very close to the "Good" range for 40-49 year olds.

Given more time and training, perhaps I can reach the "Excellent" rating for my age at 45 ml/kg/min. That sounds like a good goal but it's gonna take some effort.
