Our community used to have a library, but it closed down a few years ago before we moved here. A group of people have gotten together to renovate and build a new one.
Years ago, it looked pretty nice, but after being closed for about 10 years, the whole place was in disrepair.
.
Many of the books had been eaten through by bugs or mice. The whole place was a big mess and many books were headed straight for the trash.
Many volunteers helped to clean up the building. They sorted through all of the books and were able to help clean up all of it.
.
They were able to salvage about 3,000 of the original books. Many of them were outdated or destroyed from years of decay. They ended up giving away many of the other older books at various events that were held at the library grounds.
.
The old shelves were taken down and the ceiling was also removed.
.
This project has been going on for a few years. They have been collecting donations so that they can work on the library and hopefully open it up this year. They have already purchased more books and done work inside and outside of the library.

It already looks like a totally different place, but there is still a lot of work to do. They are trying to decide what type of bookshelves to put in, it needs to be painted, and the windows need to be replaced. Plus they hope to buy more books before opening!

It's going to look really great and will be a nice place to meet up. I can't wait to see how it turns out in the end! I know it will be a welcome addition to our community!

I recently met up with some of the people on the library committee and learned more about it. If you're interested in the history of the library and their vision, be sure to check out the video above!
