Last weekend we went to Ainsdale Sand Dunes. Established in 1980 it is one of the largest wild dunes left in Britain. We're lucky to only live 10 minutes away so this is somewhere that we have been to many times. This unique spot is a mix of pine woods and sand dunes. There are several routes you can take, either through an opening in the woods to the dunes where you can sit and watch the sun set over the sea or actually through the woods. We decided to take the longest route down the main path at the edge of the woods and then through as we had not been so far down for a while.
When it comes to the natural world the trees are my favourite thing, whenever i feel stressed or overwhelmed walking amongst them brings instant calm and lifts my mood considerably,
The trail is popular for runners, cyclists and walkers alike, and we often bring our dogs here as they like to explore and take in all the new scents.
There are some weird and wonderful species that reside here too such as Sand Lizards, Dune Tiger Beetles and Natterjack Toads .
The sand dunes are one of the best remaining places that have the Natterjack - the loudest Amphibian in Europe

This is a beautiful scenic must if you happen to be in the Sefton area, the woods are truly enchanting and the drastic change of environment is a marvel.
