It might be age catching up, the changing weather, or patience running up… whatever it is, summer has become almost unbearably hot for me. I sweat so much that I constantly look like I’ve just stepped out of the shower… but with my clothes still on. Doing anything is exhausting, even sleeping (especially since the bed quickly turns into a lukewarm swimming pool…). So for a few years now, part of my survival kit has been going on vacation with my girlfriend somewhere cool. So we opted for a trip to a mountain. Specifically Monte Amiata, which is in Tuscany and therefore easily reachable by car—something very important when traveling costs precious liters of liquids that end up soaked into your seat and clothes. The mountain is fresh, green, and quiet. ---  ---  ---  --- Every time I go there, I feel like staying. Every trail has different shades of green, depending on the trees, the weather, and the time of year. And there’s shade, wonderful shade everywhere, under which walking becomes a pleasure. ---  ---  ---  --- As a kid, I used to have a blast at the beach—with waves, balls, sand… but now I just want peace, to listen to the birds, admire the scenery, and take long walks to make up a little for the sedentary life I lead all year. And the forest gives me a sense of serenity—silent, loniless, but in reality full of life thriving everywhere if you just stop and pay a little more attention. ---  ---  ---  --- Poisonous mushrooms and spiders? Well, yeah, they’re life too—even if a picture of a fox or a flower would probably have been less unsettling 😂 The spider I actually photographed lower down, in a town called Abbadia San Salvatore, but it was so striking, in its own way, that I thought it deserved a place here despite the arachnophobia it may trigger in some readers (sorry!). ---  ---  --- And then there are peculiar things, like rocks that look as if they’ve been carved by a giant’s hand, and viewpoints that open up to endless horizons over lands, forests, villages, and distant places. Sarà l'età che avanza, il tempo che cambia, la pazienza che finisce... sarà quel che sarà, ma ormai d'Estate per me c'è un caldo al limite dell'insopportabile. Sudo così tanto che sembro perennemente uscito dalla doccia... ma con i vestiti addosso. Fare qualsiasi cosa è faticoso, anche dormire (anche perchè il letto dopo poco si trasforma in una piscina tiepida...). Per cui da qualche anno parte del mio kit di sopravvivenza prevede fare una vacanza con la mia ragazza da qualche parte al fresco. Questo le carceri erano piene 🤡, per cui abbiamo optato per la montagna. E in particolare per il Monte Amiata, che si trova in Toscana ed è quindi facilmente raggiungibile in macchina, cosa non da poco quando viaggiare costa preziosi litri di liquidi che poi rimangono sparsi sul sedile ed i vestiti. La montagna è fresca, verde e silenziosa. ***  ***  ***  *** Ogni volta che ci vado mi viene voglia di restarci. Ogni sentiero ha diverse sfumature di verde, a seconda degli alberi, del tempo e del periodo dell'anno. E c'è ombra, piacevolissima ombra ovunque, sotto la cui frescura camminare è un piacere. ***  ***  ***  *** Da piccolo mi divertivo un mondo al mare, con le onde, i palloni, la sabbia... ma ora voglio solo starmene in pace, ad ascoltare il rumore degli uccellini, guardare bei paesaggi e fare lunghe camminate che compensino un po' la vita sedentaria che conduco tutto l'anno. E poi il bosco è un posto che mi trasmette serenità, silenzioso, isolato, ma in realtà pieno di vita che prospera ovunque ci si fermi a guardare con un po' più di attenzione. ***  ***  ***  *** Funghi velenosi e ragni? Sì, be', sono vita anche loro, anche se probabilmente la foto di una volpe o di un fiore sarebbero state meno inquietanti 😂 Il ragno in realtà l'ho fotografato in una zona più in basso, in una città che si chiama Abbadia San Salvatore, ma era così bello, a modo suo, che ho pensato si meritasse un posto nonostante la probabile aracnofobia che affliggerà qualcuno dei lettori. ***  ***  *** E poi ci sono cose particolari, come rocce che sembrano scavate dalla mano di un gigante, e punti panoramici da cui osservare panorami che si aprono a perdita d'occhio su terre, boschi, paesi e luoghi lontani.
