RiotCats is a recently released blockchain game where players collect and battle highly evolved kitties. Reading the whitepaper (or RiotPaper ) I found a great introduction written by the development team:
“RiotCats is a post-apocalyptic world, where cats have to fight for their lives and endure hard times. Users can do this by collecting different cats, breeding them, selling them, even upgrade them by taking part in life or death battles. Each cat is one-of-a-kind thanks to the unique genetic algorithm. A cat is coded with a 192-bit genome which stores all visible features which can’t ever be changed. These includes: body color, pattern, pattern color, eye color, mouth, tail. Blockchain stores not only appearance features, but also cat’s character data, which includes a level, experience and stats. Over time, cats gain fighting experience that result in specific combat statistics such as mobility, ferocity, bloodthirst, agility, and strength of attack.”
Let's break that intro down a little bit and go into some details.
1) Collecting:
The games website includes marketplace where players can freely buy and sell game assets, both equipment and the cats themselves. A good marketplace is an integral part of any blockchain game, RiotCats included. This is one of the main benefits of using blockchain technology, players are free to buy and sell any part of their RiotCat army.
2) Breeding:
Players are able to breed RiotCats together to sire a new generation. Breeds can be selected in order to pass on a certain trait or just to grow your armies ranks. A cat with highly prized traits can of course expect a higher price when offering to sire an offspring.
3) Battling:
Players can send their cats to battle in the Player-vs-Player arena. Results are determined by special algorithm that factors in battle history, experience, equipment, and each cat’s unique characteristics. Players can then watch the cat-fight in a 3D rendered battle environment. Both participants are awarded some experience for the battle, the winner getting a larger share and a chance to receive a random piece of equipment.
4) Characteristics:
Each RiotCat is born with a unique genetic sequence that dictates its physical appearance. These features (ie. body color, pattern, eye color, mouth and tail type) are hard coded into into a cat’s genome and will never change. What will change as a RiotCat gains experience are it’s fighting stats: 1. Mobility - Initiative 2. Ferocity - Critical Chance 3. Bloodthirst - Multiplier of Crit 4. Agility - Hit accuracy 5. Attack - Damage
5.) Equipment:
Items purchased on the market of won in battle can be equipped to a RiotCat to modify its fighting stats to give it a better chance of emerging victorious from battle. Each cat has three equipment slots, one for a helmet, one for armor and one for a weapon. This Breastplate of the Terrible, for instance, adds +5 crit multiplier and +5 base damage.
It is worth noting that Equipment items, like RiotCats themselves, are individual tokens (ERC 721 standard). Therefore once acquired they will permanently reside in your Ethereum wallet, secured by thousands of validators, 100% yours to do whatever you want.
6.) Additional Features to be Added:
Asset Exchange: One of the planned additions to the RiotCats experience is an ERC-721 token exchange program. I have seen this before and really like the idea, basically players coming from other blockchain games will have the opportunity to trade-in assets from their other games in exchange for RiotCats assets. Got any extra kitties tucked away in a wallet somewhere, swap em out and check out something new.
What's Next: At the time of writing this RiotCats has only been live for a few weeks, it's developers are currently hard at work adding more content and functionality to the game. I got a chance to shoot a few questions by the 5 member development team and learned a bit about what is to come for RiotCats.
“Now we are working a lot on PvP battles. After that, we will add more cats’ attributes and even more items. Also, we plan to add an exchange function, so players could exchange other ERC 721 tokens to our riot cats! Thanks to the extensions support in our smart contracts we have the ability to expand the functional, so that is what we definitely are going to do. The addition of the arena mode is on the mind, and then, probably, real time battles.”
7.) Bounty:
The last thing I wanted to mention is the RiotCats Bounty program, which has been extended to run until November 25th of this year. If you have a BitcoinTalk profile and want to help spread awareness of RiotCats using your social media, then by all means check it out. Earn yourself a free RiotCat or two.
