Ancient Roman road - watercolors on paper
Hello everyone, dear Hivers friends, and welcome back to my blog. Today I am sharing my latest watercolor painting depicting a Roman road from the 3rd century BC, which is the oldest in Europe. It is the famous Appian Way, built by Emperor Appius Claudius, which connected Rome with the port of Brindisi and is 520 kilometers long, much of which is paved with limestone. It offers a variety of scenery, including mountains, valleys, ancient cities, stone ruins, and the sea.
The view we can see in this glimpse is very evocative, because the road climbs up the mountain among prickly pears and vegetation, offering glimpses of fascinating stretches of sea. I wanted to paint this glimpse because I was inspired by the sunlight on the paving stones contrasting with the green of the prickly pears and vegetation and the shadows cast on the ground.

Antica strada romana - acquarelli su carta
Ciao a tutti cari amici Hivers e bentornati sul mio blog. Oggi condivido il mio ultimo dipinto ad acquarello che raffigura una strada romana del 3° secolo a.C. che risulta essere la più antica d'Europa. Essa è la famosa via Appia voluta dall'Imperatore Appio Claudio, che collegava Roma con il porto di Brindisi ed è lunga 520 chilometril molti dei quali lastricati con pietre calcaree. Essa offre diversi scenari, montagne, valli, antiche città, ruderi in pietra e mare. Il panorama che possiamo osservare in questo scorcio è molto suggestivo, perchè la strada si inerpica in montagna tra fichi d'india e vegetazione, lasciando intravere pezzi di mare affascinanti. Ho voluto dipingere questi scorcio perchè mi ispirava la luce del sole sul basolato che si contrappone al verde dei fichi d'india e della vegetazione e alle ombre proiettate in terra.
