Gargoyle - Inktober Day 1

@artby.dara · 2022-10-01 15:22 · Sketchbook

Phew! What a prompt! As always, I googled what the prompt meant. I learnt that gargoyles are actually used to drain rainwater from the roof in order to prevent damage to the walls of a building. That was news to me!

I’ve always identified them is menacing creatures made for the sole purpose of frightening people & causing mischief : ) So learning this new fact got me excited. Overtime I guess it’s use and symbolism changed as the world progressed.

I wondered how I could bring my characters into this. I did a number of rough sketches before finally getting to the main illustration. This took a while, and looking at the painting, I wish I could do more, but here’s the process anyways!

I enjoyed every bit of it!
